Star Wars Blu-Ray Boxset Release Date Officially Announced

Written by on January 7, 2011 · Filed under TV/Movies

Star_Wars_Blu_RayIt’s been a long time coming, but first we had the official announcement of Lord of the Rings: Extended Edition Blu Ray and now George Lucas’ epic sci-fi saga, Star Wars is making it’s way to glorious high definition on Blu-Ray, now with an official pinned down release date.

All six of the Star Wars Blu-Ray Movies have been remastered and are set to be released on 26th September 2011. There will be a trio of box sets available, the first of all being the whole shebang with new deleted scenes and extras amounting to a full 30 hours on top of the saga of movies.

Alternatively, you could plump for just the original trilogy of ‘A New Hope’, ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’, which are admittedly my personal favourites and I’m taking a wild guess here, but they’re yours too.

If not, you can get the prequel trilogy of ‘A Phantom Menace’, ‘Attack of the Clones’ and ‘Revenge of the Sith’. But let’s be honest, who will? I mean, I don’t think I’ve ever met anybody who dislikes the originals but fell in love with the prequels. Forgive me if I’m wrong.

You can buy the box sets now, well on pre-order until September obviously. Thankfully HD purists will no longer have to put up with the pitiful animated series ‘The Clone Wars‘ as their only part of Star Wars in their Blu-Ray collection.

Is this the Blu-Ray boxset you’ve been looking for? Will you get all six episodes? Or is it the Star Wars originals-only for you? Let us know what you think about the Star Wars Blu-Ray Boxsets in the comments below!

Nice article however it fails to mention a critical fact that the “original” trilogy being put on Blu Ray is going to be an even-more-altered version than the “Official 2004 DVD” versions with both intentional and technical glitches

Greedo shooting Han (intentional), pointless scene in ANH with a horrible Jabba (intentional), X-Wing fanfare music missing during start of Death Star battle (glitch), Boba Fett’s voice ruined in empire (intentional), dialogue between Vader and Emperor altered (intentional); not to mention the color timing that got screwed up: pink lightsabres, crushed blacks, bluish tint in all three movies. (hopefully glitches but with Lucas you never know)

At least the horrific prequels can be simply ignored, what is the fan of the original real movies to do on seeing it on blu ray? Even the transfers on the 2006 DVDs were simply a (bad) transfer off LaserDisc. To speak nothing of the damage of the cultural damage Lucas has done with the mythos.
