Spotify iPhone App Preview

spotify-iphone-appThe Spotify iPhone app has now been submitted to Apple for approval to the App Store, I’m sure I won’t be the only one out there who’s hoping that it gets approved and quickly so that music fans can start listening to their Spotify playlists on the move and away from their desktop computer, laptop or netbook.

Spotify has had quite a successful rise as a streaming music service so far, especially for those of us here in the UK where we were one of the first countries where a Spotify invite was not needed and we also covered the news that the Spotify streaming music service was officially legal.

The Spotify iPhone app will allow you to stream the music on your playlists whilst you’re on the move and even gives you the option to synchronise your playlists to your iPhone so that the songs are stored on the device so you can play them even when you don’t have an internet connection available.

Apparently the Spotify iPhone app will be free to download, however you will need to be a premium user to actually be able to use it, which means that you’ll need to be paying the £9.99 monthly subscription to Spotify, but that will obviously mean you won’t hear any adverts neither. I’m sure this app has the potential to really boost the number of people paying for the Spotify service, for example, I don’t particularly mind hearing the occasional 30 second advert every few songs, but by offering other services to paid-up users, it is much more appealing and will no doubt be the way to boost the company’s income.

The only question that remains is whether Apple will actually approve the Spotify iPhone app as this is clearly a service that is going up against Apple’s iTunes Music Store, all be it a different business model, but it is one that rumours has circulated in the past that Apple may eventually move into.

You’ll also notice that in the preview video below, they’ve actually replaced the iPod button icon with that of Spotify, perhaps even more cheeky and “in your face” to Apple?

Do you think Apple will approve this? Would you want to use this Spotify iPhone app and would it make you move up from being a free user to one actually paying £10 per month for the service?
