Spiderman 4 & 5 Back-to-Back?
Sony Pictures are close to signing up Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire to return to do Spiderman 4 and 5.
The plan is to shoot both of them back-to-back and quite possibly integrate a 2-film story arc. Filming may start at the end of 2009 with Spiderman 4 set for a release date sometime in 2011.
No news as to whether Kirsten Dunst will return to the franchise as Mary-Jane Watson, the character is meant to be in Spiderman 4 and Sony have said in the past they wouldn’t want to re-cast that role, so we’ll see what happens.
The script for the 4th film in the series has been written by James Vanderbilt, who is the writer behind ‘Zodiac’. There’s been no confirmation of who the villain is set to be in either of the upcoming Spidey films, but you’d think that The Lizard must have a good chance of putting in an appearance in either or both of these movies.
I loved the first 2, yet I was bitterly disappointed with the 3rd as Venom hardly had any screen time and thought he would have been a better villain than Sandman. Lets just hope they’ve learnt from their mistakes and make Spiderman 4 and 5 the best yet.

I still can’t believe how disappointing Spiderman 3 was, even watching it over now, I can’t forgive how it went from the highs of Spiderman 2 to that.
I recently read that the black suit/venom would have been split across two movies, 3 and 4, with Venom only making an appearance at the end of 3 in a “to be continued..” sense and then 4 would have been Venom causing mayhem in the 4th - shame that structure wasn’t able to be played out!
However, Spiderman 4 and 5 as one story arc could work quite well depending on what story they want to tell as there as some good Spiderman arcs that combine various people - I have fond memories of watching the whole mutant story in the 90s cartoon series!
