Sony Motion Controller (Arc) Release Date Delayed
Sony have announced that their new PS3 motion controller, which was due out this Spring, has had it’s release date pushed back to Autumn 2010 for a worldwide release.
The reason it seems as to why this has been delayed is that:
“We have decided to release the Motion Controller in Fall 2010 when we will be able to offer an exciting and varied line-up of software titles that will deliver the new entertainment experience to PS3 users”
So by the sounds of that, it means that companies aren’t getting the games ready on time for the PS3 motion controller’s original release date and it will now go up against Microsoft’s Project Natal release date that will happen around the same time. Will this delay turn out to be a poor move from Sony?
Perhaps Sony want to have some great launch titles for the PS3 motion controller and want to make sure users can get the most out of it from day one. But now with both the PS3 and Xbox 360 having brand new motion detection peripherals launching at the same time, will it be like a second launch-style battle of PS3 v Xbox 360?
It doesn’t really make a great deal of difference to me as I have both consoles and am probably going to end up owning them both. But I do have to admit, that so far I’ve been more impressed with what I’ve seen of the Xbox 360’s Project Natal motion controller. Although, I have read that Sony’s motion controller is better than the Wii Remote and more responsive, this news is a big story in my opinion and let’s hope that they can deliver.
There’s a rumour going around that the motion controller has been called ‘Arc’, but there’s been no official word from Sony as yet as to whether these rumours are true.
So what do you think? Have Sony been planning to go head-to-head with Project Natal all along? Will it be an interesting peripheral battle at Christmas or can you see one clear winner already? How will this affect the Nintendo Wii even with its improved Wii Motion Plus controller? Will its days be numbered now with similar motion controlled casual games with improved graphics? Let us know in the comments below.

I am more excited for the PS3 motion controller because it is going to have more games you can use it with (RE5 gold edition already announced). And IDK why but not using any controller at all (natal) doesnt seem too exciting, although it is a big step in game advancements (could be building up to technology like in the movie “gamer”). While I may favor Sony’s new release, I am sure that natal will sell more due to the fact that there are more 360 owners, and it is a new idea similar to when the Wii was first released.

I really hope this turns out to be good and not a 5 minute wonder (unless you’ve never played games before) like the Wii.
