Smartphone Review? Orange E650 or Nokia N95?

The Orange E650 is my current smartphone mobile (which is actually an Orange-branded HTC S710) which I’ve had for around 6 months now and am half way through my current contract and thought I’d try and summarise my feelings about it.

Orange E650

Normally when I get a new toy (gadget), I’m really pleased with it and want to play with it, however in this case, there was just something about it that didn’t impress me and was considering sending it back, perhaps because it was so much more chunkier than my previous Orange C500 smartphone.

I persevered with it due to it’s increased features over my old mobile and it’s really grown on me, particularly the slide-out QWERTY keyboard which makes text input so easy, also the PC synchronisation with Microsoft Outlook is really helping to organise me much better as I can sometimes be a procrastinator if I allow things to overwhelm me.

However, I keep seeing and reading about the Nokia N95 (which was the other mobile I considered at the time of getting my E650) and with it’s much better camera, 3G capability and free Internet usage tariffs that come on the N95 contracts – the grass is really looking greener, but due to where I live, the network coverage of T-Mobile might be worse than my current Orange network coverage and the N95 doesn’t have a QWERTY keyboard, I presume that will slow down your text entry into the smartphone?

Nokia N95

I’m therefore wondering if anyone here has used either the Orange E650 or the Nokia N95? Or even better has experience of both of them? What are your thoughts of these smartphones?

Well when it comes down to it the Nokia N95 might be a better phone overall, but it’s bulky. If a phone doesn’t fit well in my pocket I usually nix it out of the choices. When I was searching for a phone I took both of these into consideration. At the end of the day I chose a Motorola Q. It has all the basic functionality I need while being slim. I just wish they would come out with a smartphone that is tiny.

The new Nokia that has the feel of the iPhone looks to be amazing. The features are stunning. When you take a picture of foreign text it translates it. Wow. It’s going to be a year or more before it’s released though.

I’ve just Googled the Motorola Q – it looks very cool, I didn’t know that Motorola made a Windows smartphone, it looks great!

The one thing that the slide out keyboard makes the Orange E650 is quite bulky and rather heavy in comparison to other mobiles – I’ve got used to it, but it took some time!

I’m thinking if I can stick with the E650 till the end of my contract in another 6 months, then maybe they’ll be something other than an N95 to catch my eye – having thought about it, it would be a very expensive luxury to get right now!

It’s good to see people discussing lesser known models. Too much attention is often lavished on the more well known brands when sometimes they are not suitable to your needs

Wow – how’s that for timing? Just a couple of days after my last comment about new smartphones to catch my eye and here’s my Orange E650’s model replacement, the HTC S730 – it seems to solve the small number of issues that the E650 has!

i should say certainly nokia n95 is the best phone with 3g wireless gps and all other known capabilities in one. but there should always be some alternatives close to its level so that people don’t have to pay the highest prices.

@uttoransen – I’ve not heard any specific problem with the slide function of the Nokia N95 compared to any others, however I’ve not got one (yet) nor have any of my friends. For more info on the Nokia N95 I’d recommend checking out Connected Internet’s coverage of it which is what tempted me by the N95 in the first place!
