Save Jericho Campaign
I recently wrote about the fact that Jericho season 2 had been cancelled and how the fans are once again trying to save the show, however this time round no amount of peanuts being sent to CBS will convince them to produce a season 3.
With this in mind, the fans are organising several efforts on different fronts to show that there is a real market for the Jericho show to other TV networks out there who could potentially bring it back for a 3rd season.
Some of the efforts that the Jericho fans are involved in include:
- Pre-Order the Season 2 DVD from Amazon.com
- Contact NBC/Universal
- Contact Sci-Fi Network
- Contact CW Network
- Contact Paramount
For all the latest Jericho news and discussion, check out the Jericho Net forums. Who knows, maybe history will repeat itself like it did with Jane who saved Jericho, Jericho then saved Boo!
Take a look at the press release below. What do you think to the campaign? Are you participating? Are you hopeful it will bring Jericho back to our screens?
JERICHO FANS WORK TO BE PART OF HISTORY….AGAIN!
March 23, 2008 – “How does it feel to be part of history? Don’t Tread on Me!” It’s the new battle cry of the next Jericho fan revolution. On March 22nd, CBS once again canceled Jericho, and within minutes, the fan efforts to solve the problem had kicked back into action. CBS’ serial drama Jericho, originally debuting on September 20, 2006, had been canceled once before, but the network resurrected it after the fans paid homage to Jericho character Jake Green (portrayed by actor Skeet Ulrich) uttering “Nuts!” to a request for surrender during the heat of battle. This line inspired a fan protest involving 40,000 pounds of nuts being shipped to CBS, forcing the network to reconsider its decision and to agree to a seven-episode Season 2.
According to CBS, Nielsen ratings had not been high enough this time around to encourage the network to buy into a third season for Jericho, leading to the show’s second cancellation before the March 25th airing of the seventh and final episode with had been shot with two alternate endings: a cliffhanger if picked up for another season, and an open-ended, show-ending conclusion to the seven episode arc storyline. CBS aired the latter version, and fans, deeming it also to be a cliffhanger itself, were inspired to begin the fight again to preserve Jericho for another round of storytelling.
Rumors had already begun circulating that Jericho’s Executive Producer Carol Barbee had been already ‘shopping’ the show to cable networks – where Jericho’s ratings, considered sub-par by CBS, would be stellar elsewhere. According to Barbee and other sources close to Barbee, the SciFi and CW networks continue to be possibilities for picking up Jericho. Fans have now sprung into action, currently sending e-mails and letters and making phone calls to both networks. Jericho fans – well-versed in their abilities to make a difference through efforts involving over $20,000 in donations to the Greensburg, Kansas, building fund, DVD shipments to troops overseas, and an affiliation with Project Homefront – are now refocusing their endeavors toward an organized multiphase effort to win a new home for their favorite show. They also have set up an alternate online rally point in anticipation of CBS’ Jericho Web site eventually going dark.

I was surprised as I thought the second series was a big improvement. I think they should get rid of Jake as he’s so wooden – that would help!

I just want to apologize to the fans of Jericho. It’s my fault that it has gone off the air. How, you may wonder? Well, just as I was giving the show a try and getting interested in it — BAM! — they decide to pull it off the air. I really don’t know how the powers-that-be found out about my interest, but I suspect there’s a web cam setup somewhere in my house that I have yet to find.
But rest assured Jericho fans! I will get to the bottom of this, and bring you many more seasons of a good TV series.

So you’re the one Mark! For a time I had suspected it was my fault, but I’m glad you’ve cleared it the real reason behind it – I feel much less guilty now!
So many good series I’ve watched have been cut-short and cancelled after just one season, so much potential has been lost…..I suspect you must also have been interested in those!

Hey Zath,
I met a cool lady through my blog about animals that was very much into Jericho and is a big big part of the save Jericho movement.
Here is my post with links to 2 of her Jericho blogs.

I still want Jericho back!! With all the drivel on TV today, Jericho was a welcome look at what could still happen if things were to go really wrong. The way the people of Jericho banded together and helped one another is a story very worth telling. And they do tell it so well. Get a clue, Prime Time TV chanels, bring it back!!!!
Jericho, the best TV ever!!

Sure , they pull the plug on a great show like Jericho but, shows like 24,CSI Miami and other lame ,unwatchable shows continue to run. Typical CBS boneheads. They are the reason their network is a pile of crap.
