Project Needlemouse Named Sonic 4: Episode 1

The new Sonic has been giving a title, Sonic 4: Episode 1. This is the official name of Project Needlemouse which was the working title of the project for the new rebooted Sonic.

The game is set after the events of Sonic & Knuckles, so it’s not as though they’re forgetting all of the games that went before this one….well, maybe the abominations that were the recent ‘Sonic’ games will be forgotten.

Sonic 4 goes back to the old skool gameplay as a 2D platformer, but this time we can to see it in it’s full 1080p High-Def glory to give it that extra sparkle.

It will also have motion controls for the Wii and on PS3 using the Sixaxis. I’m not sure about motion controls on PS3 though, just doesn’t seem right, but that could change when the Playstation ‘Arc’ motion controller is released.

The controls are going to be just like the old style side scrolling Sonic’s with the spin dash, power sneakers and a new homing attack thrown in for good measure.

SEGA have said that this will be the first part of a big storyline just like how Sonic 3 was the first in a story arc with Sonic & Knuckles finishing the story off. So it’s good to see this won’t just be a one of Sonic title which will hopefully put the blue speedy hedgehog back where he belongs in the gaming community.

Sonic 4 will be released as a downloadable title on PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii this summer.

Are you excited by the return of 2D Sonic in Sonic 4: Episode 1, or do you think it’s going to be another let down like the last few attempts? Do you think the downloadable, episodic gaming style is the right way to go with the new Sonic game? I personally think it’s going to be everything we’ve wanted for the past few years!

Its a step in the right direction, but i still miss the running animation that was used in the first 3-4 games that was missing from the other games.

Oh yeah! This is the game we grew up with. Finally it’s back with fantastic gameplay and graphics. Cheers to Sega for they finally try to put Sonic back to his former strengths! By the way, will this be really available on iPhone?

I cant wait for this game. I think many of us have waited a long time for this. I think the run animation is going to look like that in the final version though :(
