Prison Break Cancelled

Well it looks like Prison Break will be cancelled after season 4 – or perhaps the feeling is more that it’s not being re-newed for season 5.

Prison Break season 4 is currently on their mid-season break with just 4 more episodes left to show when it returns on 17th April 2009, however apparently they may film a couple more episodes to just properly finish off the show – if that is the case, then I think that will be good as so many shows are left feeling only half-finished.

Reading some of the quotes from the people involved, they are talking more about the natural end of the story rather than lack of viewers as is normally the case when shows are cancelled, for instance this was not the case when we found out that Jericho Season 2 was cancelled.

“The show just played out,” says Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly. “Creatively everybody feels enough stories were told … we want it to finish strong and not just gimp out next season.”

I personally think that the story has probably reached a natural end without it getting even more ridiculous to bring them back again for another series. The only thing I would say is that it’s a shame that Prison Break season 3 only got about 13 episodes due to the writers’ strike as that season could have been even better had we seen a full episode run.

You could really tell how fast the story moved in the last few episodes of season 3 – in a way I think they shouldn’t have ended the shortened season 3 with them getting out of Sona, instead have kept them in and played out the full, true prison escape story as season 4. Then they had the option of the Company storyline for a season 5…ah well I suppose at that time, they weren’t sure if they were re-newed for a Prison Break season 4.

Prison Break has been a good show while it lasted, for me it was at it’s best in the first and third seasons.
