Playstation Move Announced (PS3 Motion Controller)

sony-playstation-move-ps3-motion-controllerIt’s taken a while for the official name of the Playstation 3 motion controller, ‘wand’, ‘arc’ or whatever else people wanted to call it, but Sony have released the official name for their motion controller as the ‘Playstation Move‘.

The announcement was made at GDC yesterday along with a trailer of the type of games that we’ll be looking at playing to start off with. With true 1:1 motion control, it is said to be more responsive than Nintendo’s Wii Motion Plus controllers which is a bold statement.

I’m looking forward to seeing just how the PS3 Move is and what kind of games will be released for it. The fact we’ll be able to play motion controlled games in HD isn’t really a major factor. What I want is a game that uses Move and to get me really immersed in the action. I’m not one for the gimmicky party titles so I’d like to see some new IP games created for use with Move and see how that pans out.

A few games of already been announced which include Little Big Planet and SOCOM 4. Will we see the next Call of Duty taking advantage of Move? It might be nice to have the option of using both the SixAxis controllers and Move.

There are quite a few big named studios already putting their name to creating games for Move including Square Enix, Capcom, EA and about 33 more.

To be honest, it looks like a bit of a Wii remote rip off, with the main controller and a sub controller similar to the nunchuck which is quite cheeky on Sony’s part. It looks like Move will cost in the region of $100 so whether that will be a straight swap to pounds remains to be seen, but it’s more than likely it will be a straight £100 for us Brits.

The Playstation Move release date is set for the back end of 2010, so expect Santa to be delivering a bucket load of these.

So what do you think to the Playstation Move? A Wii rip off? What the Wii remote was wanting to be? How do you think it compares to the forthcoming Project Natal’s release date and price being proposed to be around £50? Let us know below.

Interesting, but £100 sounds expensive for an add-on, especially compared to the rumoured Project Natal price being around the £50 mark – it’ll be interesting to see what happens this Christmas when they are both on the market for people to buy!

It has a major lag issue :(. Motion just wont work with lag. Sony say its better than the wii mote, but then they would say that. From the reviews its very good, but the lag is really letting it down. It works in reverse to the wii mote which is how it can be more accurate. But the fact of the matter is wii motion plus is 1.1 and so is sony move. Thats just like saying my mouse is better than yours. Yes a mouse can be better, but how can you perform better than 1.1? Anyway, I had my little rant now! I just wanted it to show off some better games. Archery, table tennis, gesture based boxing?….. wow, iv never seen them before! ;)

The $100 quoted by Sony was for one of the PS3 Move packages, the package that contains the PS3 Eye and a game. If they sell the controller on its own I would say it would be closer to £40 or £50 in the UK.

i hope this gets the attention it deserves and not just a few games on release date, come on sony make it more than a gimmick! Table tennis online would be great!!

People say Sony are copying Wii by releasing the MOVE with its similar Nunchuk friend. How else were Sony supposed to do it? We use hands to play games hence hand controllers. Hmmm!!! Two products similar in use yet it is deemed as copying! So phones, microwaves, tv, cars etc you get the point.

Wii only tracks movement, Move tracks distance therefore adding a further dimension to it. It will track power and pace whereas the Wii penalises you if you swing to hard (for example Golf).

I have a Wii and PS3 and truly cannot wait to purchase my MOVE. Next we need vibration chest, arm, leg pads that well vibrate when hit, shot, crash, fall etc.

:) or a sensor that reads the eyes. Eyes that control the game, look up the camera goes up great for Call Of Duty 9 ha ha
