Playstation 3 ‘Hacked’ By iPhone Jailbreaker?

The Sony Playstation 3 has finally been ‘hacked’. The man claiming to have found his way into the PS3 is George Hotz (or Geohot) who was the first person to hack into Apple’s iPhone.

But people have been questioning whether or not the PS3 has actually been ‘hacked’ as the CELL processor which is the power behind the PS3 is meant to have impenetrable internal decryption algorithms.

So firstly there is the question whether the PS3 has been hacked at all?

Now I’m not an expert on hacking as I’ve never tried it in my life, but if Hotz has hacked his way into the PS3 then we should be seeing high levels of piracy starting on the PS3 within the coming weeks surely? If not, then what has he actually hacked into? Running codes via OS systems like Linux to change a few things?

Hotz wrote on his blog that his hack will “ignite the PS3 scene and you will organise and figure out how to use this to do practical things…..” and “I’m not spending my time writing custom firmware, ISO loaders, and an open SDK. Leave that to somebody else….” which could mean that the PS3 might not have been fully hacked and that he’s only just make a crack in doing so his ‘hack’.

I think anyway that you look at it, the PS3 has been hacked, whether is being partially or split wide open. I’m all against games piracy. Yes they’re expensive for the most part, but you can pick up some bargains from time to time, but now I’m afraid that Sony are going to have to spend a lot of time and money on playing cat and mouse with the pirates and ultimately it’ll be us honest games players that will suffer.

shut up with your stupid article piracy isn’t the only thing to do with a hacked console i think a lot more people would be interested in home brew software etc plus blu ray games are really far to big to download anyway and i couldn’t see ps3 piracy really taking off but home brew software has a good chance if it can be run.

Bad times, Sony really cant afford this. From what I’ve read, Sony are still losing money on this console. They were hoping to break even by the end of 2010 beginning of 2011. I guess that won’t happen if this gets big.
