Play TV Demo

I’ve just downloaded a demo of Play TV for the Playstation 3. The Play TV demo is a digital tuner for use with the PS3 and allows you to watch and record digital programmes onto your HDD, the same as Freeview recorders or Sky+.

The menu is very basic and easy to navigate around and the guide with all the TV listings was very easy to use as it’s no different from the ones I’ve used previously on Freeview and Sky.

The programmes that are the demo are obviously just demo channels that have already been pre-installed for users to get used to how Play TV works. You can record a programme with one push of the select button, which I found very useful also.

Play TV allows you to view the channels listings 7 days in advance so you can set up recordings for the next day or 4-5 days in advance. I also liked the fact that you can turn on ‘background recording’. This allows you to play games, watch Blu-Rays/DVD’s or listen to music whilst recording one of your programmes.

The usual features are there for rewind, pausing live TV which most people would expect to see nowadays, the only let down is that there seems to be no HD programmes. It would be nice seen as though the Playstation 3 can output in Full 1080p HD, to see some HD programmes on the demo. But you never know what the future holds.

Play TV is easy to use and the interface is pleasing to the eye. There’s seems to be no surprises that will baffle you and if you’ve used Freeview or Sky’s guide before, then you should have no problems using the Play TV demo.

A decent little addition to the Playstation 3’s peripherals, but if you’ve got a Freeview box with a hard drive or Sky+, then stick with them.
