Play Street Fighter 2 Online For Free!
We’ve been big fans of the Street Fighter games ever since we played them as kids in the arcades and at home on the SNES – now not only have we been treated to a complete modern-day update for our current generation consoles in the form of Street Fighter 4, but now we get to enjoy some classic Street Fighter 2 action in our browsers!
To coincide with the release of Street Fighter 4 on the PC on 7th July 2009, Metaboli – the leading European digital PC games distribution company has launched a marketing campaign which sees the original ‘Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition’ of the game now being made available for in the form of a free Flash version that can be played from within your web browser of choice.
Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition includes all the 12 original characters: Ryu, Ken, Honda, Chun-li, Blanka, Guile, Zangief, Dhalsim, Balrog, Vega, Sagat and M.Bison. It also even features the bonus rounds where you must race against the clock breaking cars, barrels and drums.
It takes a little while to get used to playing this on your keyboard, but I was surprised just how quickly I managed get up to speed and winning some matches – a great big of online retro gaming, definitely worth your while in giving it a go, if only for the nostalgia value alone!
You can play Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition (CE) for yourself by heading on over to Kongregate who have a whole host of online games to play to entertain you when you’re stuck for something to do…it sure beats playing Solataire or Minesweeper to while away time at work!

I’m not someone who plays that many web-based games, especially when it comes to some of these retro games as I think I’ve moved on as a gamer, but I sat and played this for ages!
That really says something about how great a game this was and how the gameplay is still up there….now if only I could hook up an arcade joystick!
