Photovisi is a web-based tool, enabling users to create collages online of various photo collections. Designed to make it free and easy to arrange your photos and images in attractive collages for whatever reason. So, I tested the Photovisi service to make a photo collage see if it lived up to its billing, however it all sounded rather familiar to me.
So, where have I heard all this before? Ah yes, included as a feature in Google’s Picasa application since version 2, released way back in 2005. However, in an application designed for purposes apart from just this, how does a service dedicated to photo collage ideas fare against the offering from the multinational corporate giants?
Well really there isn’t much set up to be done. As I said, it’s an web-based collage creation application fully incorporated into the company’s website. Upon entering the website, it is a simple matter of clicking the huge button labelled, ‘Click Here to Start’. Couldn’t be clearer than that to be honest.
Creating A Collage Online
Well this process is clearly the most important as it provides the entirety of the service’s functionality. So it was a pleasing to see how simple the process actually was. For starters, you are provided with an abundance of templates to choose from, in an attractively, yet plainly laid out page.
The templates range greatly in appearance, from the limited edition world cup collage which implants your photos into various sections of a traditional black and white football; to a more romantic twist, encompassing your images into a pair of love hearts. Alternatively, you can simply have a traditional collage design, a picture pile, or a basic grid of your images.
They range from the fun and fruity to the plain and simple, but for the purposes of testing I decided to stick with just a basic picture pile. Once selected, you are taken to the basic tool used to decide on your images. Once again, a huge button located at the top left is immediately blatant, labelled ‘Add Items’.
Once your images are in, the amount of editing available is actually pretty extensive. You can simply move them about simply by clicking and dragging. By a similar method, you can resize pictures or rotate them; it is all very similar to the majority of modern software on the market, which in any way involves manipulation of images including the latest Microsoft Office 2010 versions.
Apart from that, you can change background colour or add an extra image in the back. Double clicking the images allows you to rearrange the order in which the images are piled, moving them to the top etc. and you can crop your images too.
So that’s how to make a photo collage using Photovisi. You can them just click save and download it for free to your computer. An interesting addition, probably aimed at those creating desktop wallpapers or something similar, is the option of saving at different resolutions. The two provided to me, were 1024×768 and 1600×900, two very popular resolutions.
Quality of the Collage Result
Obviously the quality of the images is ultimately decided by the quality of the images put in. But very little, if any clarity is lost so all round the collage was exactly as advertised.
As you can see, the collage is attractive and altogether professional. Photovisi do insist on slapping their web address on there for obvious promotional purposes, but then again it’s probably to be expected with such a fledgling company attempting to get their name out there and it is a free online collage service after all.
Overall Photovisi is a great online service to make a photo collage. Whether or not you require such a service is obviously personal preference, but if this is what you are looking for then it certainly delivers on all of its promises. It’s free, extremely simple to use for any user, and the quality is undeniable.
I was extremely impressed in the initial quantity of templates and the variety included which give you plenty of photo collage ideas. It is a hard sell for Photovisi due to Google providing a rival feature in there Picasa application, but the extra templates and amount of editing available takes collage creation to the next level.
