Nintendo Wii Price Cut Coming To The UK
What’s that? The Nintendo Wii is finally getting a price cut? Well sat here in Europe we suffer a little in the UK when it comes to international releases: more often than not we are the last of the major technology players to get the latest stuff – behind the US, Japan and occasionally small tribes in Outer Mongolia.
This rule also applies to price cuts and yet again we find that Nintendo have seen to the US before us, however I doubt many people will be complaining because at least it has actually managed to jump the Atlantic. Yes, this is the news that the Nintendo Wii price cut is coming to the UK!
Ok, that’s not all that surprising, and Nintendo would be kind of shooting themselves in the foot by only cutting the price for our American friends, but now we have official word from a Nintendo spokesman as well as news of some new bundles…
“We will be reducing the trade price of Wii to retailers from 2nd October 2009. In the UK and Republic of Ireland we are also introducing a new configuration of Wii hardware from 2nd October 2009 which will replace the current offering and will include the Wii console and Wii Sports with the new Wii Sports Resort game and Wii MotionPlus accessory. This will be available to retailers at the newly reduced trade price”
As you can see they are also attempting to plug their new Wii Motion Plus accessory at the same time (which makes sense really) and this will hopefully boost sales for them, which have so far been far from extraordinary. They’ve also attempted to cover their backs by only saying that the discount will be ‘available to retailers’ which means that they are able to shift the blame if, for some stupid reason, the retailers don’t pass it on to us common folk.
A final note is that we don’t actually know what this cheap Nintendo Wii price cut will entail – hopefully it will mirror the 1/5th drop seen in the US (from $249.99 to $199.99) but whether or not it will only time will tell!
