Nintendo DSi vs Sony PSP 3000

nintendo-dsi-white-blackThe new Nintendo DSi and Sony’s PSP 3000 are set to start a new handheld war. This will be the 3rd versions of their handhelds!!!

Both are retailed at £149.99 with the Sony PSP 3000 release date being 6th March 2009 and the Nintendo DSi release date a month later on 3rd April 2009.

But I can’t see Sony outselling Nintendo on the handheld front. The PSP is more on the media side as there are only a handful of PSP exclusive games on the market and lets face it, they’re not the best games.

Whereas, Nintendo bring out some of the best games across all formats on the DS. I have both and feel Sony really need to push the PSP 3000 and bring out some great exclusive games.

The DSi has a few new features, which have been a little controversial to some people. These changes being:

  • Slimmer than the DS by 12%
  • Bigger screens
  • Two cameras, but only 0.3 megapixels. Hardly groundbreaking, but I suppose good enough for the DSi
  • Web browser
  • Download games using DSWare using Wii Points
  • SD memory card slot which has controversially replaced the GBA slot. (Guitar Hero players miss out big time)
  • Better audio with improved speakers.
  • ………..and errr………a longer stylus by 4.5mm……?????
sony-psp-3000-red

The PSP 3000 on the other hand has very few changes, with only a built in speaker and better screen. The speaker is for people who use Go! Messenger or Skype, but I thought the PSP was meant to be a games handheld. Obviously not, it’s just becoming a media centre.

You can get the DSi in either Black or White and the PSP in silver, white or red.
I don’t think I’ll be rushing out anytime soon to bag either of them as I’m quite content with the versions I have at the minute.

What are your views on this? Just another ploy to make money? Or do these represent necessary improvements?

Nintendo is in a much better position, because there are already very many excellent games for the Nintendo DS. Without a wide range of good games, there is simply no reason for buying a PSP …

I don’t think that the PSP is worth getting. Like you said, nothing new here. However, the DSi has made some really great changes and additions. I think we will all be quite surprised in the coming months to see how Nintendo capitalise on this by launching some fantastic games and apps.

DS has better games than PSP? Are you an 8 year old girl? I have both and PSP is light years ahead of DS in terms of quality games. (but I a gamer, not a little girl).

The DSi’s cameras are 0.5 MP…zero point five. That’s laughable. I’ll stick to my PSP-2000, but if i had to choose, i’d get the PSP-3000 simply because of PSN, and the recently announced games coming to the PSP; LittleBigPlanet, Assassin’s Creed, Motorstorm, Persona, Disgaea 2, etc…

If you already own a DS or a PSP it would be completely pointless to buy either one of theese “Upgrades”. This is just a way for Nintendo and Sony to make more money.

Anyway, on to who wins. Nintendo have Sony beat hands – down in the handheld market. The PSP is set to have a killer year with a great lineup of titles already announced however the gap between the two is so wide, i feel it’ll be absolutely impossible for the PSP to ever catch up.

Uh… guys, the PSP 3000 has been out now since before Christmas. All they’re introducing in the 6th is some new colours; it’s been out for a while and has failed to make a splash like the DSi likely will. Fact.

I think this is pointless now. You can’t get the dsi in white, When it comes out in america on april 5th the colors are light blue and black and the psp was announced to have really great games this year a few days ago. There is Motorstorm: Arctic Edge, LittleBigPlanet PSP, Assasains Creed, Rock Band Unplugged plus previously announced game like monster hunter, final fantasy dissidea, and if they come out this year Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and Coded and Final fantasy XIII agito and the 3rd birthday. This is definatley the year PSP will shine.

Well the PSP is going to start to pick up with the games in 2009, with recently announced games such as….

    - Assassin’s Creed PSP
    - Motorstorm: Arctic Edge
    - LittleBigPlanet PSP

Then there is rumor of the PSP 4000 or PSP2 so it seems that Sony is starting to pick up on development of the PSP.

As for the DSi Although it has some significant upgrades to it I really think the PSP is in a better position coming up. I mean I don’t think the PSP will ever & I mean ever catch up in sales to the DS but it will get closer. The DSi’s upgrades of 2 camera’s,downloadable DSiware games, Music,Movie & Picture playback just don’t appeal to me. I already have a PSP 1001 and it can already do all that I don’t really need my DS Lite to do that, so there really is no reason to upgrade.

To be honest there is only one thing that would even make me consider buying a DSi is if Nintendo allowed Wii owners to take their Wii virtual console games and transfer them on a SD card from their Wii to their DSi so they could play their virtual console games on the go.

Doesn’t that sound like a great idea? Who’s up for a little Super Mario RPG Portable? I know I would be.

Anyone who thinks the PSP has better games than the DS is either mentally “Challenged” or just simply a non – gamer.

There is not a single game on the PSP that can compare to Pokemon in terms of quality or sales…..that’s a fact (Know what those are? Go look the word up……).

I think that both consoles are just a mindless money scam, but however the psp 3000 does have a shine in my eye. I think Nintendo have just milked the cash cow with the DSi….its just another Nintendo DS Lite but with a camera. I think it is a real let down that the GBA game card slot is gone now too, and that means that nobody can play GBA games on them anymore and can’t play Guitar Hero: On Tour and Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades.

The PSP 3000 in my head is a better choice….There are some really good games on both consoles just now like God of War: Chains of Olympus on PSP and Professor Layton and the Curious Villlage on DS. The PSP has some really great games to look forward to this year like:

    LittleBigPlanet PSP
    Motorstorm PSP
    & Assassin’s Creed PSP

While the Nintendo DS doesn’t really. The only one to get excited about is:

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games

Are your parents brother and sister? Next time you’re going to reply at least have some facts to back your argument up you hillbilly moron.

Calum, Pokemon Platinum will likely record higher sales than any of the PSP games you mentioned this year. It already tore up the Japaneese software charts, completely embarassing Dissidia: Final Fantasy.

    @David Macphail

Pokemon from a quality perspective doesn’t come close to games like God of War and Crisis Core. It’s a known fact that the Pokemon games are rehashed every year or so in multiple versions (that are roughly the same).

Sales is another thing, Nintendo has built up 20 years of users/customers since they released the original Gameboy in 1989 (i believe). I was one of them, but when the DS came out, it had a full year’s head start AND brand loyalty to help spur sales. And the fact that it cost less than the PSP helped too. But for Sony to be able to get 30% of Nintendo’s handheld market share says A LOT about just how popular the PSP is. Last i checked, the PSP was at 45 million, while the DS was at 99 million, a huge difference yes, but nothing to scoff at considering Nintendo’s past competitors…

Both systems have their pros and cons, but to use Pokemon as a ‘quality’ title is laughable. You should have used Professor Layton as an example of quality…

Funny how you mention God Of War and Crisis Core…….you ARE aware that those two games PUT TOGETHER haven’t sold what Pokemon Diamond/Pearl did, right??? LOL…..using those games an example of quality is…..well, it’s just fine. However next to Pokemon they look like second rate, unwanted games.

Another fun fact is if you add the total sales of the Final Fantasy AND God Of War franchises together…..they haven’t sold nearly as much as the Pokemon franchise has. Evidently there are PLENTY of people out there who think Pokemon is the “Higher quality” game.

The PSP has been a big success for Sony, no doubt about that. However the DS has this generation won hands – down and nobody can deny that now.

Well David, You seem to be quite hung up on Pokemon. Frankly speaking, Mario and Pokemon are more like 2D versions, but simple to play and of course people of this generation are simply more used to it. That explains the higher sales. But for a hardcore gamer (a bit of a techie like me), PSP 3D rendering, graphics quality and games with realisting RPG or even racing make PSP win hands down. I dont care for the PSP multimedia experience (I already have a top of the line windws mobile phone to cater to my needs on that front), but gaming “quality” wise, PSP does win hands down. Please quality and popularity should not be mixed. One does not definitely imply the other. Its like comparing Mc Donald Burghers to a gourmet French dinner.

Popularity DOES justify quality, what do you think makes a game popular in the first place? LOL.

If a game comes out and is rubbish it’s not going to be popular is it? However if a game comes out and is good or “Quality” it’s going to become popular via word of mouth. Quality gaming is EXACTLY the reason i bought a DS instead of a PSP (That and the small fact that just about every game i would have wanted on the PSP has been/is being ported to the PS2.

Hardcore gamers that care about high – quality graphics and rendering would buy a PS3…….the PSP is basically a dumbed – down, handheld version of the PS2…….except without the popularity.

I’m pretty sure with the new access to downloadable content, nintendo is once again in the better position. Sure the psp has better graphics and nintendo refuses to give us a major facelift in that dept., but the innovation and creativity it brings to the table is very apparent. I think if companies can work around the whole “no gba slot” deal, everything else should play out well.

If you guys have ever seen the warioware stuff that’s available in japan, there’s some cool “eye-toy” like games available. It’s really a give and take between the two.

    Dear David,
What makes a game sell is what audience its meant for. The games that really made the ds sell were Mario, Nintendogs, Pokemon, Sims, The Imagine games and animal crossing. If you hadn’t noticed nearly all of the hugely successful games for the ds have been aimed at children under the age of 11 and the cold hard fact is that a huge potion of gamers are children of this age. Lets say 70 percent at a guess. So therefore a huge potion of games being sold to the majority of gamers are games like Pokemon. This does not make Pokemon the better game. But when did you here of 10 year olds playing Gears of War. So David your wrong and you play games that most children get bored of when they hit 10 and your wrong again. Personally I hate ds’s because the graphics suck and most of the games are babyish.

James – the average age of a gamer is 35 – so thank you for proving that you have absolutely no knowledge of the gaming industry whatsoever. Evidently you only play games that are designed for little kids, so you fail at pretty much everything!

The DS has games marketed towards REAL gamers – most of the games on the PSP are not – which is why the DS sells more. If you think the graphics on the DS suck and the games are babyish then you must be mentally retarded – are your parents brother and sister?

Gears Of War has shit graphics – so using that as your example says it all about you. You’re wrong, you play games designed for 5 year – olds and you’re wrong again!

Perhaps you should spend more time brushing up on your spelling – you seem to have the spelling age of a 10 year – old!

More people over the age of 11 have a DS then have a PSP – that’s a fact, you must be one of those academically challenged kids………

You actually consider Pokemon as a quality game? The game in which you control a 5 pixel character around a 20 pixel background? You seem like the 35 year old playing Pokemon in your own example…

    Now, about the actually discussion:
-The DS offers games that are too casual and are almost all 2D. While this may be acceptable to very young children, anybody who is beyond playing flash games would be dissatisfied.
-The PSP, while not having such a large game library, has games with staying-power, and much more effective multiplayer play.

If pixels are so important to you then by your standards you must think Final Fantasy VII wasn’t a quality game either – LOL! Don’t you know ANYTHING about the videogame industry?

If everyone on this planet was as dim as you then perhaps the PSP would be selling more – thankfully that’s not the case. Next time you want to spout off garbage that doesn’t hold any factual meaning at all go do it in the playground at your primary school – not on here.

    -David:

Of course Final Fantasy is a quality game, but you stated your example of a quality game as Pokemon, so don’t bring other games into this. I’m not a PSP fanboy, as I don’t think it’s very much fun, although it is better than the DS by far.

You keep judging the consoles based on sales, yet you still preach about so-called quality. Let’s compare the Honda Civic and the Rolls-Royce Phantom. Which do you think sold better? Obviously the Civic, but which one is better, and of higher quality? Using sales as a basis for judging how well the system performs is…just stupid. Now, please show me a 35 year old who plays Pokemon on their Nintendo DS that isn’t a loser living with his parents.

    @ David Mc-FAIL

Im not on either side of the fence as yet…. I own a PS3 and a Wii, but no hand helds. Im trying to decide which one to buy at the moment. Now that I hope to have proven that im not a PS Fanboy, I just wanted to say that your arguments are… well… stupid, to say the least. Your a tool.

To say that high sales of anything means that the item is ‘better’ or ‘higher quality’ than the other not-so-high selling item is just crazy! Ever heard of hype or marketing? A classic example is music… There is GREAT music available in underground scenes. It is high quality, even with low sales. Then you have commercial crap that sells in the millions, but is only cool for about 5 minutes and is normally written and based around some other popular title. Its all re-hashed, much like a Pokemon game. While the Spice Girls where huge, the quality of their music was terrible!!!!

You have every right to be a Pokemon Fanboy, but to start having ago at other opinions purely based on your crazy ideas that high sales is even remotely related to a game being quality is just bollocks.

David, it doesn’t seem you understand what makes a good game if you only know how to judge it on sales…did you even read my example about the two cars? This whole time, you keep relating quality with sales. QUALITY =/= SALES. As far as I can tell, Nintendo DS has sold so much purely because 7 year olds can accept the low quality games that continue to be spewed out. By the way, misspelling a word doesn’t void James’ point; picking out a grammatical mistake is just weak…

Wake up and smell the coffee David – sales volume does not equal product quality, other wise there would only be the one term! high volume always tends to reflect low end of market. Go take a marketing course.

David I know a great many people who’s only reason for purchasing a DS was that it was cheaper and they thought it would be better than the psp. They now want a psp themselves but don’t want to fork out the extra cash into gaming. And flood is TOTALLY right. Of course something like a Ford Escort would sell more than a Bentley or a Morgan but which do you think is better quality. A cheap and cheerful plastic interior or a wood finish with titanium and aluminum knobs.

And David get a life. Do you have a girlfriend (or boyfriend) do you have any friends at all. Do you go out side, for a stroll in the park or stay inside playing games designed for 8 year olds. So stop speaking your crap arguing for a console for 8 year olds. If you think that the DS has better graphics than the PSP then check the computing specs for each one.

I always preferred DS then PSP.
I owned both, but i sold my PSP since it had an inferior library of games, compared to DS.
Metal Gear Ac!d, Everybody’s Golf, Wipeout Pure and a couple of carbon-copies of PS2 games (like Virtua tennis 2 or Liberty city stories) weren’t even comparable to Phoenix Wright series, the Final Fantasy remakes, Mario Kart, New Super Mario bros, Phantom Hourglass, Advance Wars, Metroid Prime: Hunters, Castelvania: Order of Ecclesia and Dawn of Sorrow, Professor Layton, The world ends with you, Sonic Rush 1 and 2, Kirby, Meteos, Megaman ZX, Trauma Center, Ninja Gaiden, etc. etc.
The people saying that DS is for children must be 14 yo teenagers or casual gamers that know a shit about videogames. DS has a shitload of titles that appeal hardcore gamers.
Anyway, i think the PSP-3000 is much more an improvement for the PSP then DSi is for the DS.
The PSP-3000 screen is way better then the PSP-2000. And i mean WAY better.
The colors are so much more vivid it’s not even comparable to the old one.
The video output function that lets you connect it to your television has been vastly improved, and the image on the tv looks surprisingly good.
I’ve heard things about progressive scan that creates big problems on the new models, but that’s a lot exagerated. It actually happened only with some consoles and with a few games, and the issue it’s barely visible.
You can also use the PSP-3000 as a Skype phone, and that’s pretty good.
The DSi, on the other side, looks much more a gimmick then a true improvement. They added two cameras, one one the outside and one on the inside, and you can only take static pictures.
What’s the point of an internal camera if you can’t use it as a webcam?
The internal camera is also pretty shitty (0,3 mpix), which probably means it is supposed to be used with games, not to take pictures. The problem is that the camera is actually used for nothing else then taking pictures! The only game that uses it as a sort of ‘Eyetoy’ camera, a Wario game, showed that this is pretty useless since you have to stay very far from the camera to be seen well, and at that distance YOU CAN’T SEE THE DSI LITTLE SCREEN!!!
Also, it wasn’t projected to be a motion sensor, so it doesn’t work very well when used that way, since it’s not very sensitive.
Not good to use it in games, not good to take pictures, why did they put that thing on the DSi??? It’s just a gimmick, i tell you.
It gets even worse. They removed the Game Boy Advance slot.
So, not only you can’t play Advance games, but you can’t use any accessory that make use of it, like slot 2 pass cards, guitar hero on tour controller, etc.
It gets EVEN worse. They made DSi EXCLUSIVE games you can’t play on a regular DS.
You would think that those take advantage of the faster processor or the larger amount of memory, but actually they look PRETTY MUCH THE SAME AS ANY REGULAR DS GAME.
So, summarizing, you MUST buy a DSI in order to play new games, because you old DS Lite is not allowed to play them despite being capable of doing so, and you’ll pay more then a regular DS to have a console that has no more the Advance slot and compatibility, has 2 shitty cameras unuseful for anything else then taking shitty pictures you could take with your cell phone and more battery consumption.
    Meh.
Also, as i previously said, the DS has a great library of games, while the PSP HAD a far worse one.
The keyword being ‘HAD’ here, because now there are titles like Metal Gear portable ops, Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow, Patapon, Final Fantasy Crisis Core, Final Fantasy Dissidia, God of War: Chains of Olympus, Resistance: Retribution, Kingdom Hearts birth by sleep, etc.
While the DS has, in my opinion, still a slight advantage in term of games, PSP is finally building a great library itself, so it deserves to be played.
For all those reasons, i’ll be happy to buy a PSP-3000 to replace the old one i sold a year and a half ago, while i’ll still stay with my old fat version DS without feeling any need to buy a DSi.

People that yell and scream that the PSP and DS are just for gaming and nothing else really need to get a life. How much gaming can you do before you get tired of it? Its cool to do internet, play music, videos and store pictures on the same device you play video games on. People that have the opinion that it should only be for games need to stfu!!! But then speaking of game graphics, PSP wins and upcoming games are more cooler (KH, Dissidia and etc) for DSi I think it’s only good for camera, pokemon fans, microphone, hotel blah blah blah(forgot it,it’s a scary game in hotel where you are a baby sitter) etc.
For Prices, DSi wins, PSP is… expensive but it will be good later on because of some games that would be awesome.

I am not good at English XD. So Decide for yourself.

I’ve never wanted anything more than the DSi in my entire life.
Bigger screen, no finger marks, thinner, cameras, SD card ( i don’t care about GBA and I don’t have GH), DSiWare and web browser!!!!! Think of what you could do with that SD card! SOOOOFTWARE!!!! I will certainly be trading in my Lite!

I was just getting on here to get an idea of what handheld game i will get. I have decided on the DS only because ir fits my taste. I grew up on nintendo and the games will keep me interested longer. My brother had a PSP when i was growing up too but i didn’t really like the games…so along with the fact that the DS can take more of a beating (and I’m really clumsy and always moving about) I will like the games more. I think that is what will attract anybody to buy…personal taste…not huge sales.

    listen people…

the psp is a cooler system than the dsi
psp’s can add a camera to the system

the problem with psp’s is that it’s noisy and takes to long to load
    psp’s have great graphics though

ndsi’s have non noisy and non lengthy load time
the graphics are the weak point though

this is a battle up to you
i chose the psp, but now want the ndsi

it depends on you and the style of games you want

    Dsi is rubbish.
its for little girls who like puppy games.
    if youre a proper gamer,psp 3000 rules!
i dont have any of them,so im not on any consoles side.
DSi has a 0.3 mega pixel camera.-whats the point?psp has a 1.3mp camera but turns out like a 5mp camera.
psp 3000 has skype and has a built in mic.AWESOME
Games on the psp rule unless you like mario kart which i hate.

do you even own one of these? Or are you just assuming stuff, because if you had these two, you would know how much better the games are on the PSP. The PSP Screen can display over one million different colors, and it has very good graphics. It’s internet is not laggy, like DSi’s and it can play movies for you on the go. The PSP has all of the features of the DSi, except the camera, and the touchscreen. The camera is basically useless because it has such useless quality. I have both a PSP 3000 and a DSi. I think the Dsi is horrible compared to the PSP. Let’s face it, the PSP is better.

P.S. You can even watch live TV on your PSP if you buy location free!

i have to agree with nicolai.
someppl love psp 3000 and some love dsi.
i own both and i have played both.
soo far, i think psp has the best graphics and dsi has the best games and gameplay. both handhelds are good and weak in different things. this two handhelds are the best in competing each other. and samantha, if psp have a touch screen it will be a major breakdown for sony as they copied the whole idea of nintendo. and psp is really good without touch. i have no idea why they must put touch. and i will say psp 3000 = DSi.

Well … after all the McPhail comments & replies, glad we could actually get some constructive comments out. Crikey, thought I was back in an English class … but then lets not get onto comments about grammar!

Thanks guys for (most of) the comments. I am in the market for my kids – all three (aged 7 -12) are wanting to upgrade the GBA’s in the next 2/3 months so this was mostly an interesting read!

Will keep an eye on this to see if there are more useful comments. Cheers

    DSi -15k
    PSP 3000 -9k + 1.5k Go!Cam with Go!Messenger and Editing Features.
The PSP now has bested all of DSi’s Features and for the touch screen-
    Wide Screen-
    Bigger RAM-
    Has a visual player-
    Cheaper Games-
    Longer Games-
    More Formats accepted-
    MSD Compatible With Many Computers-
Go!Messenger Takes Advantage As Pictochat Was Removed-

Ok I personaly hate sony and the knock off psp
first the dsi has a lot more games
second the dsi has a touch screen even if its single touch its better than not having one it has 2 cameras a decent 3 megapixel and a 0.3 one
and in responce to a previous comment Pokemon is one of my favorite games ever and im 15
and slappy u r a dumb @$$ the ds has like twice the sales 2 screens then the psp and i can go on and on but i have better things to do and for the psp i have a few friends that like it but one of them has dropped it and the back broke off and he couldnt use it any more and the games are cheeper for the dsi

the psp has the dsi beat by a long shot, the dsi may have more games but that doesn’t mean that they are any better than the psp’s ( also the games for the dsi are for like 7 year olds) . plus the dsi may have a web browser and two cameras but both horribly suck the photos you take look like crap, and the web browser is so slow and pretty much useless that you cant even upload half the pages, and it doesn’t even have flash so you cant watch videos

Nintendo ds/i have educational games and can teach you to cook, to speak in diffrnt languages, meanwhile the psp doesn’t have those things. But psp has a nicer graphics thn the ds and have a lots of games that are enjoyable. There’s a new game for the DSi and has been launchd it was called Wario ware: snapped and it looks kinda great and the camera of the dsi was kinda awesome even the megapixel was not too great you can do many things about it, just watch the videos about the operating system in nintendo DSi.

Well I think PSP 3000 is much better and most of you are wrong.PSP 3000 is not just another copy and paste. Most of you who way the DSi is much better, I bet you have a DSi and you just voted for what you have. You probobly have no experience with the PSP 3000 when I have both systems. First of all PSP 3000 is very light & slim, sony took out SOME of the glare(no glare when the system is on), better gaming quality, obviously a much much much(and so on..) better than the past psp screen, first player shooter games(FPS games) is way better to play on the psp than the DSi, you can put a 3.0 megapixel camera(bought seperately and remember 3.0 megapixel), better movie/video quality, a bit better sound quality, good graphics, AND SO ON!!!…. What is has that nintendo copied was, internet connectivity, music player, an online store, and I forgot the rest BUT!! the psp has all those things and ALSO, skype, movie/video, and I think theres one more.. DSi to me looks absoloutly horrible! It looks like a brick, sanded till smooth, COLORED by a kid (no flashy, dare I say, bling bling color on it.. LOL), and added a circle on it.. BTW the camera is just completely horrible. Camera should be used when you are bored or you wan’t to take pictures of the gameplay. This is why I told you to remember the PSP’s seperately bought camera. PSP’s attachable camera is 3.0 megapixel whilte the DSi has a 0.3 megapixel camera, and BTW the is the OUTSIDE AND INSIDE CAMERA. Exterrior is just completely hiddious. Interrior has a nice, larger double screen. (most of you know that ones touch screen) I am still a little pissed that when I was playing Zelda in my room with my lamp on, the glare just really pissed me off.. Gaming quality is nice. (I preffer this for kids below 12 unless you play addicting games and strategy games like me) I won’t lie to you guys, some games are actually fun and addicting just like the PSP but the way you play is slightly more fun.(If you know how to pick games.. :O $49.99?!??! uhmm… yes..) PSP has a nice, glossy look and a luxury look.. It doesnt look cheap like the DSi, the buttons look like the ones they give you as freebies.. PSP has a nice worked has to get look.. So I give Sony a 10/10 and DSi 8.9/10.
REMEMBER PEOPLE!! ITS AN OPINION!! AND THIS OPINION IS FROM MY PAST EXPERIENCE WITH THESE TWO SYSTEMS SO THEY SHOULD BE VERY ACCURATE!!!

Hey people, I don’t know why you just keep arguing over this, it’s a matter of opinion! I admit that the PSP has better graphics, but it also has some downsides like breaking easily and the games are very fragile. The DSi also has its own goods and bads. So why don’t you stop arguing and get the one you think beter suits your tastes/wants?

I have the dsi and im thinkning of trading it in to get a PSP sure ill have to pay a bit more but so what. Like other people have said the games on DS have seriously crappy graphics and the games are for 7 year olds who want to have virtual babies or other crap, also so what if it dosnt have a camera just buy one with like 10x the megepixels and if your a serious gamer you wouldnt care about the camera, but before i do trade it in I just want to know if I can put like avi video clips on an SD card or straight onto the psp and play them. If it can do that then im gettin the psp cause im a gamer but I would also like to be able to watch videos etc. on the go. Thank You if you reply to this. :)

The PSP in all of it’s iterations is designed for the serious gamer and targets a more mature audience. The PSP 3000 is a PS2 in a smaller package with a smaller gaming library and increased multimedia capabilities.

There is no comparison between the Nintendo DSI and PSP 3000. However, since they are clear competitors and the PSP is the only true competitor that the DSI has, we have no choice.

The DSI only beats the PSP on 2 points, battery life and amount of games available. The graphical quality, display, game physics and overall quality of the PSP far exceed that of the DSI.

@ Mr Dondalinga – I have the original PSP and it takes video in an AVC format (I think). I am not sure if the 3000 takes standerd SD cards as the 1000 and 2000 have used Mermory Stick Duo, however you can get cabels that let you transfer files from your PC to your PSP.

I bought psp when it first came out, sold it for a ds, and now im without a nintendo ds and with a psp3000, why? Simply because Sony upped their game, while the games for the nintendo ds was lagging, Sony came with Final Fantasy, Kill Zone, Little Big Planet and soon Tekken 6. Also the fact i can hook up the psp with my ps3 as a controller is pretty cool and convinient at times. The screen is has a mad amount of pixels and is the best quality ive seen on a handheld thus far. The psn is just awesome and the playstation network is convinient and handy, if you want to test a quick demo or two, and buy a few games while your at it. There is also free online play for your psp games which is quite nice and entertaining.
Psp is ahead in my eyes now, simply because of the levels they have stepped up in the recent year.

Hello to all portable hand – held gamers
i believe you should get a PSP Brite-3000 because the games are more high graphics and the sound is better than the DS-i. If anyone played Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games you can notice that the movement of the characters are fuzzy. Plus the games on PSP is more high quilty is many ways. The design of the PSP is more sexy than the DSi. If you have seen the New Colour Blue and pink, it is disgusting while the NDS Lite is sot of like the PSP. To conclude i think the PSP 3000 is the way to go because it much cheaper with many feature equipped inside the system. So what, if the DSi has a camera you can buy a CAMERA GO! for the PSP.

Me, My wife and my son r all gadget freaks have had all the major consoles and handhelds , but only recent coverts to the psp, had ds and dsi for number of years was still bying ds games only a few months ago ( just bought modern warfare 2) for ds ,BIG MISTAKE, will be prolly last ds game we buy , have traded back for “several” vastly superior games for psp, I have been a gamer since pc gaming started (nearly 20 years) always ran graphics hungry games always needed the latest and greatest graphics cards and memory for what ever i wanted to play, nuf said!! graphics wise psp rocks, game availability ds prolly has the edge, gameplay and visual and over attention to detail the psp is always going to win. for me the psp vastly out guns the ds . ds good for 4 to 8 year olds , psp will take over and never be defeated for 8 years old onwards.

I fall for PSP GO becuase my brother has a DSI and I’ll have to say–it really is for the younger generation. The only thing that makes DSI more popular than PSP Go is the price. The price for a PSP Go is way too damn expensive and I think sony can renovate that, but hey…you get what you pay for right?
    PROS FOR DSI:
-Edit music ( I was really impressed by this…you can add a lot of cool thing…you can even make your song instrumental. Though the down fall of this is, you could probably find a website that does the same thing.
    -Less fragile
-You don’t have to download games
    -No blue ray
    -No skype

    CONS FOR DSI:
-Most features a PSP can already do
( including a camera add on…you can buy CAM Go and you can even edit your photos on PSP too)
-The graphics are not to my appeal, I like realistic looking games
-Compared to PSP …DSI cant compare to action games

Now I have a PSP GO, I like it. I think it’s worth the money (if you can afford…and please…no one take this offensively) . Yes, PSP Go may be expensive, but the apps and the downloadable games are benefit. People complain about this, but downloadable games is for the BETTER! You don’t have to worry about it being scratched, or losing ( escpecially with those tiny chip games that DSI/DS have, you could lose those thing easily and destroy it). Also, PSP GO gives you 16GB..You have enough room to download a game. Yeah, it takes a while to download a game, but its a GAME PEOPLE. I whole entire GAME. We’re lucky that it even takes a couple of hours. The apps on the PSP Go are great!
So, just buy a CAM for your PSP and there…a sony version of DSI (except better)
But remember, it all comes down to what you prefer, for this is only my opinon. Personally, I say…buy what makes you happy! Wether it be DSI or PSP GO. But you wanted my opinon and you got it ^_^

The DS is mainly a Girls toy. The PSP is mainly a Boys toy. I repair both.
Both have many ways to hack them, to open up there potential.

The PSP build quality is better by a long way.
    PSP+Girl will last forever.

The DS is better for its extra qwirks mic/touchscreen.
DS+Boy will last less than 18 months before needing repair.

The processing power of the PSP means you can emulate a SNES/GBA and make it play any of its games. Mario + Pokemon on PSP=Easy.
The DS has no power in its processor but has many more games available.
So to sum up. GIRL+PSP=TOMBOY * BOY+DS=LADYBOY= Buy a Windows XP phone i make it play both.

all you peeps seem to forget when both psp and ds came out the price was almost £100 difference so all many went for the ds choice for most ppl over the psp because of the price building a much bigger fan base a couple of years later but where as psp has inproved color refresh rate the ds is still the same except 6 years later bigger and yes i have a psp and my 4 yr old girl has a ds game on ppl

If you want kid games get the DSi, but if you want better games with better graphcs get the PSP 3000.

David, I understand that you feel that the Nintendo Ds I is a better hand held game console, but you should not insult other people by calling them retarded , stating that they are 35 and live with their parents, and stating that their parents are siblings. You call them stupid and retarded, but the true fools are those who put down others to elevate themselves.

    Now, back to the discussion.
I am planning to purchasing a new hand held gaming device, but I do not know which one of the two to choose.

Would you and the other commentors please give me information and advice on which one to buy, without the use of put downs.

Thank you and please excuse any spelling and grammar mistakes.
