New World of Warcraft, StarCraft and Elder Scrolls Books/Graphic Novels

Written by on June 23, 2010 · Filed under Games

The success of great books, films and TV programmes can often be measured by how much they manage to leak into other media forms – and while spinoffs may sometimes detract from the ‘glory’ of the originals if nothing else they compliment how good it was (as was the case with the recent Assassin’s Creed: Renaissance book) and now Titan Books are releasing three more books that fit this description nicely.

Titan books specialise in film & TV tie-ins, and have done so with big names such as ‘24’ and the ‘Terminator’ series, but now they are starting to incorporate more gaming and the latest set of releases focus on three of the big fictional gaming universes out there from the games World of Warcaft, StarCraft and The Elder Scrolls.

World of Warcraft Ashbringer Graphic Novel

world-of-warcraft-ashbringer-comic-graphic-novelWith well over 10 million subscribers World of Warcraft is easily the most popular MMORPG out there, so it should come as no surprise that Titan are releasing their fourth graphic novel based on the WoW universe – this one spinning off from the second expansion pack: ‘Wrath of the Lich King’ and set to be released later this month.

The second graphic novel based on the world’s most popular massively multiplayer videogame tells the saga of the Missing King of Stormwind. Upon learning he is in fact the lost ruler of Stormwind, Lo’Gosh returns to reclaim his throne with his comrades in arms Valeera, and Broll. But all is not as it seems in the eastern kingdom, especially if one informed dwarf has anything to say about it.

Available from £9.89 in paperback.

Elder Scrolls: The Infernal City

The first one we’ll look at is the novelisation that continues the story from the very successful and award winning ‘The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion’ and is entitled: “Elder Scrolls: The Infernal City”. If you are one of the millions of people that have played the game you will probably relish the chance to extend the story as it aims to maintain as much as possible of what made the game great:

Four decades after the Oblivion Crisis Tamriel is threatened anew by an ancient and all-consuming evil: Umbriel, a floating city, casts a terrifying shadow – for wherever it falls, people die and rise again.
Inside Umbriel’s shadow, a great adventure begins – and a group of unlikely heroes meet. A legendary prince with a deep secret. A daring spy on the trail of a vast conspiracy. A mage obsessed with his desire for revenge. And Annaïg, a young girl in whose hands the fate of Tamriel may rest…

Available from £6.99 in paperback.

StarCraft – The Graphic Novel

starcraft-comic-graphic-novelOne of the overlooked forms of story telling is the graphic novel, although it has come back into fashion with the recent stream of Marvel movies, and to mark the release of ‘StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty’ Titan Books are releasing StarCraft the graphic novel which celebrates one of the bestselling PC games of all time!

Set to be released on the 25th June this novel has been written by Simon Furman who made his name as one of the most popular Transformers writers having done so since they appeared back in the early 1980s.

Join the War Pigs, a disbanded team of outlaws reunited by their former captain for one last job: the assassination of Jim Raynor! But before they can get anywhere fast, they have to wrest their ship, the General Lee, from the hands of cutthroat pirates! But who is Cole Hickson? And what dark secrets from his past and present does he harbour? One way or another, the War Pigs are in for a rough ride.

Available from £14.99 as of 25th June.
