New Wii Classic Pro Controller

wii-classic-pro-controllerNintendo have announced an upgrade to the Wii Classic Controller. As you can see from the picture above, it looks like Nintendo have made this similar to Sony’s DualShock controllers, with the shoulder button’s have been placed in the same way. The pad should plug straight into the Wii Remote as the current one does.

The rest of the pad seems to be unchanged, but what is the reason behind the updated Classic Controller? Are Nintendo setting us up for a more traditionally played games that require the pad, or the virtual console is about to receive a massive injection of N64 games. Who knows?

The new Classic Controller is rumoured to be available to our fellow Japanese gamers in June, but no word yet as to when the West will receive this – release dates aren’t the most forthcoming things from Nintendo in terms of Wii hardware, for instance we’re still waiting on the Wii Motion Plus hardware being released.

Any views on this? If Nintendo do release more traditional games on the Wii, would you buy one or keep your current controller (if you already have one). Or do you own a Gamecube pad already for your Wii and feel you don’t need this.

I have both a Gamecube and classic controller, but I suppose this would work as both and you’d only then need to one pad.
