New Nintendo DSi
Nintendo just can’t stop can they!! A new DS is about to be released, known as the ‘ Nintendo DSi’.
There are a few new features added to the DSi which include bigger screens (17% bigger to be precise), top and bottom. The ability to play back music with improve audio capabilities, and save data onto an SD card, and you can also take photos with the built in 3 megapixel camera.
The camera has a maximum resolution of 640 x 480, which is a decent size for such a small console. Gamers will also be able to download games which will be known as DSiWare and can be stored on an SD card. The Opera browser which is used on the Wii, will be built into the DSi as standard. Some of the DSi ware will be free, but others you will have to buy using, you guessed it, Wii Points. The points values will be set 200, 500 or 800 depending on what it is that you want to buy.
But they have removed the ability to play GameBoy advanced games. But I can’t really see that as such a massive loss personally. The reason for the removal is because of the SD card slot, and they’ve made the DSi 12% thinner than the DS Lite.
The DSi has a release date of November 1 2008…..in Japan. With a European DSi release date not that far behind in the Spring of 2009. So at least we don’t have to wait that long. There will be 2 “flavours” that you can choose from on release, white and black.

Will this new little addition to the DS family make it even more successful? Or are gamers going to stick with what they already have? I personally think this is a great idea as it’s just like a mini Wii or a ‘Wiiny’. I should patent that shouldn’t I?!
How about you? Do you have a DS or DS Lite and fancy an upgrade to the Nintendo DSi or are you happy with what you have and think that this is just another money making scheme from Nintendo? Let us know!

And for those of us who live in the UK, the DSi is mostly *useless*, since they’re going to make all the DSi content region-locked. I’m sure I’m not the only DS owner who owns more imported DS games than local-purchased… Not just because of the price difference with US games, but I like quirky and obscure games which either never get translated into English at all or aren’t considered worth the effort of making a pan-Europe version.
Also, they’ve said you CAN’T use wii points, you have to buy special DSi-only points.
Not that it matters, since with region-locking I won’t be buying one.
If it weren’t for that, I would, because I love the DS and would be happy to have the new gadgets.

wowee.I am over the moon about this.i am trying to keep calm about this. This new leap from nintendo’s handheld consoles. The new camera idea and the cool new point function to buy software online and the memory card slot, not to mention on the music software.

to be honest it’s an amazing idea. and to the above wii points and ds-i points are in fact the same as they’re renaming them wii points plus, if you buy in 2009 you get free points to use (i think about a thousand)…
my original ds calibration touch screen recently broke (but hey four years old not bad).
Oh and region locking will only stop you from playing brand new ds cartridges from other countries so any foreign games you owned from 2008 andv before is fine…
plus i think it the region locking must be encripted in the cartridges and when you have the new console ds it reckonises the country. And if you still want to play foreign games keep your old console for it? Thats what i’m going to do with mine(replacing touch screen of course).

It is actually quite a large change from the old ds lite. The new games capability will be awesome..just think about it…you think they put 2 cameras on the dsi by accident?

Hopefully we’ll soon find out how the new Nintendo DSi stacks up against the existing models given it should be getting released fairly soon!

Please… all you people complaining. It’s not useless, beause the DSi will only not be able to play DSi games from other regions, not DS games. You will be able to play any DS games, and Wii points are being renamed Nintendo Points, because they are the same as DSi points. We should be happy for these new releases. Well done to those who are, and cheer up you others.

Why bring this out now when everyone is sufferning as they haven’t got enough money to pay the bills? In my opinion, it’s a waste because most mobiles have 3mp cameras and most people have an mp3 player. Who cares if it speeds up a song or changes the pitch? I can see that being good for music tech students but for everyone else? Also, the camera is a glorified face warp. Yes you can half morph into your mother and stretch your face, but how long will it amuse you for? The browsers pathetic, i mean, what’s fun about draging your stylus to the text box, then having to bring up a menu and tap a keyboard, then waiting ages for what you want? (i’ve seen videos and it’s really slow). Why not use a computer which allows you to use a keyboard and see the full screen at the same time? Also, why have they removed the gba slot? Some games require this. I feel sorry for the guys of guitar hero. I’m sure if they’d known that nintendo had planned to take out the gba slot, they’d never had released two games. There was talk of them releasing at least two more, so will they now? It’s unfair to those who want another guitar hero on tour game. Many younger users of the ds play gba games and there are those, like myself, who love playing classics such as zelda and super mario bros. Okay, you can down load these when the shop opens, but why should nintendo expect people to re-pay for a game they have already bought? The biggest things that will put people off are that items like action replay will not work in this system (which will put off younger gamers who need a little extra help) and that the cartridges for the dsi will be region locked and higher in price. It’s good you can play any region ds cartridges but imagine when you have your dsi from ajapan (as some are doing now) and see games over here- imagine finding out you can’t play the games. When it is released over here, imagine hearing america will get that exclusive dsi game FOUR months before the UK- no imports like you can at the mo, and having to pay £10+ more than our american cousins. Gutting, isn’t it?
Gaming comapnies seem to forget what players want- good games, which, may or may not have fantastic graphics and sound as well as a good storyline, people will want to buy, play over and over again, tell their mates so they can see what’s with it. It may be loaded with fancy gadgets but after the novelty’s worn off, what will they all do? Go back to playing games. So i shall be sticking with my ds lite until a time comes that there will be no ds games i can play on my ds lite. Note to the gaming companies- stop trying to be fancy and start improving what you already have- be unique and have games which will capture gaming audiences for years to come. (This is my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own).

I know about the ds games, i’m on about any dsi games they release in japan that WON’T be playable over here- i’ve had a few titles which are nigh on impossible to get over here. Fans of these games won’t be able to play them if they’re dsi only (which are rumoured to be quite a few) so the options are a) not to get them, which means missing out on some fantastic titles, or b) pay for another dsi (currently retailing for about £300 from japan on ebay). Just imagine if games like phoenix wright hadn’t been imported- we wouldn’t have had one of the best ds series, same goes for individual games such as elite beat agents (Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan was a little wacky but good fun to play). I’ve watched the videos (including this one) for quite a while and none of them have swayed me. By the way, for anyone interested getting one, the dsi’s out 3rd april, two days before america but one day later than austrailia (useless info for the day, and i’ve been bombarded by emails from game and hmv about it).

I’m quite sure they said that the DSi would be region locked which is a bit rubbish for those wanting it early via import.
I’ll be quite happy to wait until the release date for this one.

the dsi is so useless we might aswell stick with the ds its exactely the same except a few features such as mp3 and camera why dont you use a regular mp3 and camera it saves you money instead of buying something that will end up being tossed aside when the next model comes out, also the screen is bigger i never had problems before with the ds screen.
Just get a super card you can actually watch movies on your regular ds with it and also play free games and get music.

DSi useless?? I don’t think so, it’s easy to say its pointless and that a DS with a super card will be better, but think about the new possibilities. The hinge camera that is motion detecting! Just like the original ds gave games a whole new direction with the touch screen, how about being able to play games by moving your face etc. Plus, nintendo handhelds are always a success.

I totally agree with whiner, once again region locking will mean the UK will get the crap, get it last, and pay more for it, people will be mighty dissapointed when they hop on the internet in the UK and see all the games they CANNOT download. It will be a first if the ALL the games for ALL regions are ALL downloadable at the same time, and will ALL the prices be the sameYeh that will be the day. It would not be suprised if the games will be downloaded directly from Nintendo so the UK government can come up with some sort of internet import duty & VAT The DSi will be on sale in the UK 5 months after it has been on sale in Japan, I will not be suprised if the same goes for the games

One other thing, Canada and north US have DSi in blue, it will not be long before other parts of the world wil have been buying pink, red, blue, green, and metalic for months, and the UK will still be buying black & white ones. Why region lock a colour, probably the only thin nintendo coud think of to let te UK have last LOL
