New iOS 4.1 Update To Fix iPhone 3G Problems Coming Soon?

Written by on August 22, 2010 · Filed under Software, Tech

iphone-os-4-updateI truly do feel sorry for iPhone 3G users. First off, they don’t get to enjoy all of the features that the iOS 4 update has to offer, and then when they try to use iOS 4 on their phones, it slows them down to a crawl!

Fortunately, it seems as though the next update to iOS – version 4.1 – may go some way towards fixing these issues. A disgruntled iPhone 3G user emailed Steve Jobs, saying…

“I’ve waited patiently through 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, looking for a fix that will make my phone work again. I’ve read the forums that advise me to jailbreak my phone or use some other method so I can downgrade back to a version of iPhone 3, however I’m not prepared to use a method that is not supported by Apple.”

Jobs’ response was short and to the point, explaining to the user that there is a “software update coming soon”.

He was no doubt talking about the newest update to iOS 4 which is currently in development.

iPhone 3G users will no doubt be happy to hear that Apple know about their troubles, and hopefully they will see a fix from the Cupertino based company sooner rather than later.

Are you an iPhone 3G owner who upgraded to iOS 4 and been experiencing problems ever since? How did it affect your usage of your iPhone? Do you welcome this news? Or has it taken too much time already and are you still using your iPhone 3G?

I upgraded to the iphone 4, but i have a friend who is using iOS4 on his 3G and he is furious about it. So for his sake i hope they get it sorted pronto.

I think it’s taken far too long already, I’m giving them 4 weeks to fix it now or I’m ditching my iPhone and changing camps to a competitor. It was obvious from day one that they’d crippled the 3G and it isn’t exactly an ancient phone just yet. If it still takes 90 seconds to type the first letter of a text message by the end of September I’d be an idiot if I stayed with Apple.

I have a feeling that they may release it tomorrow. If not, I’ll do a post about downgrading the 3G back to an earlier version of iOS for all you guys still struggling!

Funny that the crippling using OS4 affected the 3G, which for most users is upgrade eligible through ATT (meaning you are beyond the warranty window and beyond the required service time to get new phones). I bought the 3G just a couple of months before 3GS hit the market. Apples hope, IMO, you get pissed and just upgrade to a iPhone 4 as your upgrade window is open.

I am very angry!! My phone is pretty much unusable. I have waited and feel it has indeed taken way to long for a fix. I don’t have the time or the want to update any phone over and over in hopes it will work. I plan on going back to blackberry. Never had this kind of issue with them.

I’m annoyed, my battery life stinks I probably get over half a day now till 20% warning comes up. Everything runs slowly. I constantly loose my network, My photos now are blurred if I zoom in, when previously I could zoom & zoom and it was clear.
I cant wait for this next upgrade. WHY cant Apple do the most sensible thing and send a de-upgrade to the people who need it.
