Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 TV Adverts

internet-explorer-8-logoWe’re not huge fans of TV adverts here at Zath, however when it comes to technology and internet-based companies trying to dip their toe into the old-fashioned TV advertising format, it’s generally worth taking a look at – if only for the comedic value alone!

This time Microsoft is once more having another go at creating TV adverts for their recent Internet Explorer 8 release – after their previous “funny TV commercials” with Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld, followed by the more mainstream “I’m a PC” campaign and then the recent Bing TV advertising – I thought it might be interesting to see what direction they took…

Hmmm, what can I say, they certainly have taken a definite direction with this new series of TV adverts that feature former-Superman actor Dean Cain.

Just take a look at them for yourself below, I’m thinking Microsoft have got two completely different advertising agencies on their books that couldn’t be more different if they tried – that or the different parts of Microsoft aren’t particularly talking that closely about an overall corporate direction?

What do you think to these Internet Explorer 8 TV adverts? I suppose at least they are memorable and get the message across, if it is in a curiously bizarre manner. However as tech-minded computer user who rarely uses Internet Explorer (if I can help it), I’m not quite sure that mainstream users will really “get these” messages about new advanced features – even I have no interest in “Web-Slices”.

Would these TV adverts make you use Internet Explorer more? What do you think to the new features?
