Microsoft Kin One & Kin Two Announced (Social Networking Mobile Phones)

microsoft-project-pink-kin-one-kin-two-smallMoments ago, Microsoft’s Project Pink handsets were finally revealed, known as the ‘Kin One’ and ‘Kin Two’. Although they’re based on the same backend as Windows Phone 7, these two handsets offer an entirely different experience to the user, with heavy focus on social networking features and a browser based on that of the Zune HD.

‘Kin One’ consists of a square slider design with a full QWERTY keyboard in tow. Users get 4GB internal storage for all their media as well as a 5MP camera complete with flash. The ‘Kin Two’ on the other hand has a more conventional widescreen display and also slides to reveal a QWERTY keyboard. The camera is upped to 8MP and internal storage is also doubled to 8GB.

The user interface of the two ‘Kin’ phones (who the hell thought of that name?!) is vastly different from Windows Phone 7, and it will be interesting to see what the uptake of these devices is with no support for third party apps and the release of Windows Phone 7 just around the corner.

If you’re in the US, you can grab the phones on Verizon in May, with Vodafone offering an Autumn launch for those of us in Europe. Whether these will sell besides the new Windows Phone 7 phones is yet to be seen, but it’ll certainly be interesting to see what people think when these devices hit the market.
