MAG Multiplayer Open Beta (PS3)

Sony has announced that there will be an open Beta available for MAG at the start of 2010 after the closed Beta was released a few months ago.

In case you haven’t heard of it, MAG (Massive Action Game) is an online action game which will be able to host matches of up to 256 players in each game and is a PS3 exclusive.

The two playable modes available will be ‘Sabotage’, which will play with up to 64 players and ‘Domination’ which will be the stage the massive 256 player mayhem.

In the game, players will be split into squads of eight, with four squads forming a platoon and four platoons forming a company. The more experience you gain, the higher your chances of becoming a leader of a group. Sounds like something straight from Band of Brothers, which excites me a bit. The fact that there will be so many people fighting at once will be absolute carnage. Fingers crossed there’ll be no annoying bugs like the ones reported in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. There’s also 3 different types of soldier, or factions as they will be called, which are ‘SVER’, ‘Raven Industries’ and ‘Valor Company’.

The Beta will go live on 4th January and will close at 8am on 10th January. There’s quite a few things to download if you’re wanting to play the Beta which include a 298MB file from PSN, with an additional 38MB patch which shouldn’t take too long to download. After that you will have to download a file which will be between 1.8GB and 2.3GB depending on your region. But anyone lucky enough to have been included in the closed Beta trails will be able to download the files now but can’t play until the 4th when the servers are up and running.

This sounds like it could be one of the best online games around and might even rival Call of Duty’s hugely popular online games. But there’s a lot that could go wrong with so many people online at one time. So I’ll hold back my excitement until I’ve played the MAG open Beta, what do you think to how this game is shaping up?

    Bonjourno :D

i have played the MAG beta and im afraid to say it doesnt rival COD: MW2 in the slightest, the maps are painstakingly huge and it doesnt have that feel that COD has when your playing online, i suppose its nice to have like a free beta thingy like ive had, but otherwise its not really worth however much it will be when its coming out haha :D

just my review anyway lol, out of 10?

    ermmmm 5/10 haha ;D

i kinda like this because of how it can involve a lot of ppl.
and i know what you’ll say, “the beta is crap”, but think about it, not many people were lucky enough to get hold of it.
when the beta releases on the 4th of january, more people will be online, and therefore, it will be more fun.

this game could be the best of 2010!!!!!

Well after playing the open beta its now imo better than MW2. What impresses me besides 256 players , It has the most realistic ragdoll physics ever and its much better than Killzone 2 ( the physics in KZ2’s SP were gud .. In MP the phyiscs were buggy and shit because of wounded animations) the guns could have sound better , they sound weak like a BB gun, hopefully the full game will have more realistic sounds. I like that you can customise your character and your weapons and the experience system is deep. what i hate is people ranting on about how mw2 this , mw2 that . remember people mw2 is fragfest simply , MAG requires you to work as a team and ive worked as a team it was really exciting. Il say this right now , MAG is the best online fps ever !! graphics should improve over time when the full game coms out .

‘This sounds like it could be one of the best online games around and might even rival Call of Duty’s hugely popular online games’ – Well said Ender, well said. As much as I like call of duty, I felt that Mag just seemed to be more fun and less serious. Then again, I prefer games like Quake to COD so who am I to say!
