Livescribe Pulse Smartpen Gets An App Store – Does A Pen Need One?
I’m sure when your writing your first thought is ‘How much better would my pen be with its own app store?’ Although it may sound way over the top for a pen it is actually done quite well and has many entertaining apps. I am of course talking about the Livescribe Pulse Smartpen.
This pen has a 96×18 pixel screen and 2GB/4GB of storage space for its 30+ paid and free apps from the classic hangman to Hebrew chanting. This pen can also record your notes in two ways; it creates digital copies of everything you write and records audio at the same time.
On top of all that if you click part of your notes it will access the audio from that point. You can then load this all on to your computer and have the notes archived and made fully searchable, (I can imagine that this would be perfect for students). My personal favourite thing about this pen though is that if you draw a piano you can tap the keys and play it!
We must not forget that this is still just a pen and they are not trying to make the next iPhone, but the 5500+ developers have really gone to town with the apps. However, is this really what you want from your pen? In some ways it’s similar to the Papershow we looked at over a year ago, I’ve not seen many people using them yet.
Surely the Livescribe Pulse Smartpen would just be a distraction when writing and you would never get any work done? I know I wouldn’t. This really makes you ask the question, ‘What’s the point?’ – what do you think?
