LG Mobile Event (November 2009)

lg-logoHere at Zath we’ve had the opportunity to attend several LG Mobile events over the past year or two including ones for the launch of the LG Renoir (KC910), the LG Arena (KM900) and the LG Chocolate (BL40), however this time round we were invited to the learn about and play with a bunch of current and upcoming mobile phones from LG.

The event featured several mobile phones, some of which we’d seen before, but others were completely new – we’ll be covering these in more detail in separate articles, but here’s a quick run-down of what we were able to have a closer look at:

  • LG Chocolate (BL20) – a cut-down, slider handset version of the previously released LG Chocolate BL40 which maintains the same high standards of the original, but features a smaller screen which makes this a more pocket-sized handset.
  • LG GM750 – this handset is the first Windows Mobile-based one that LG have produced and therefore offers great synchronisation options with Windows, no doubt a great choice for those whose lives revolve around Outlook email, calendar and tasks.
  • LG Pop (GD510) – a mobile phone which is targeted at being more affordable and environmentally friendly in terms of its components and packaging, but it still has all the features that you’d expect in a modern handset including a 3″ touchscreen.
  • LG Watch Phone – this was the infamous ‘phone on your wrist’ which LG unveiled at CES 2009 and this was the first time I’d actually seen one in person, I was quite surprised at how usable it was once I was wearing it, I had been rather sceptical since I first heard about it.
  • LG GW620 (Android) – this will be LG’s first Android-based handset, the first of many no doubt. This one will feature a 3″ resistive touchscreen, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and perhaps most importantly the benefits that come with using Android in terms of Google functionality and downloadable apps.

In addition to just sitting through a presentation about their new phones, we were then able to talk to some of the knowledgeable LG trainers and other staff about the mobile phones that they know inside out – which in turn made our time with them much more productive as we weren’t blindly pushing buttons trying to figure out what was happening for ourselves.

The evening also meant that I was able to catch up with Marc Evans from Coolest Gadgets UK and was able to meet Everton Blair from Connected Internet in person for the first time, thanks to LG Mobile for putting on a fun and useful night where we got a first-hand look at some of their upcoming handsets – watch out for further coverage of these LG mobile phones coming soon here on Zath!
