LG Crystal (GD900) Preview

LG has now released new handset to add to their ever expanding range of mobile phone options and this one is called the LG Crystal (GD900).

With their recent mobile phone handsets that we’ve covered here on Zath, the LG Renoir (KC910) and the LG Arena (KM900), you’d have thought that LG were firmly targeting the iPhone-style large touchscreen handset market, well they’ve now returned with a new sliding handset.

However, don’t make the mistake that I did in thinking that this new handset would just simply be another run-of-the-mill sliding handset that you might find coming from any of the manufacturers out there, oh no I think you’ll agree that this one does somewhat stand out from the crowd – just take a look at this for a sliding mobile phone handset!

Yes as you can see, this new LG Crystal (GD900) handset is significantly different from the last sliding handset we looked at here on Zath, that being the LG KF600, with it being named the LG Crystal for good reason!

This handset boasts the world’s first transparent keypad and as such the latest in touch features. The Crystal Touchpad is made of highly durable tempered glass that is able to absorb shock and vibration. The touchpad also allows for gesture controls to provide immediate shortcut access to your favourite applications and features while being in the middle of something else.

The handset also uses the same user interface (UI) that the LG Arena did while having additional processing speed and a dedicated chipset for graphical and multimedia functionality.

I think that this certainly looks like something different and innovative; it could almost have arrived from the set of a futuristic movie or TV show, just a shame that the crystal/glass theme isn’t carried through the whole design of the handset, but I look forward to seeing one of these in person. I hope more companies continue to try different things with their designs like LG have here!

The LG Crystal will be available exclusively from The Carphone Warehouse from the 1st July 2009.
