LG’s CES Press Event Roundup (CES 2010)

LG held their CES press event earlier today, and after moving past sales figures for the past year (yes, LG are still booming in the recession), we got to some pretty interesting technology…

LG TVs

A particular point of interest was wireless technology in TV’s. All LG TV’s will be wireless ready in 2010. If you’re not familiar with wireless TV, it does what it says on the tin, allowing you to stream 1080p video to your HDTV remotely without the need for a host of wires ruining the view. It’s certainly a promising technology, and definitely beats the good ol’ cable organiser!

To go along with this, LG also announced improvements to their ‘Broadband Services’, bringing 35 different internet services directly to LG TV’s and hard drive equipped Blu-Ray players. They call this ‘DivX TV’, and I love the idea, as it helps cut out the set top box or PC you’d normally use and allow you to bring these directly to your TV.

What are you going to use to control this wonderful new tech inside your TV though? Well, if LG have their way you’ll be using the “Magic TV Remote”, which has gyros and an accelerometer. Just imagine a Wii control on a TV and you’re probably on the right lines (awkward anyone?).

One thing we all expected, and got, was the mention of 3D technology. LG’s TruMotion technology is now in 480Hz, driven by a new chip designed to process 3D. LG’s top of the line ‘Infinia’ line of TV’s are equipped with 480Hz TruMotion, and are capable of 3D. To go along with this, 3D Blu-Ray players are also set to be announced.

To finish off the news on LG’s TV’s, they’ve also made their ‘Ultra-Slim’ LED TV even slimmer, and at just 6.9mm thick, it’s hardly visible from the side. Until OLED TV’s become even remotely affordable, it’s good to know that you can still have an ultra thin LED TV for all your media related needs! So all in all, there’s been quite a few developments made for LG’s 2010 range over the LG LCD and Plasma TV Range for 2009.

Talking about OLED TV’s, is anybody in the market for a splash resistant OLED TV? LG’s latest offering is splash resistant, so it’s perfect for the kitchen where it’s bound to get splashed on by all sorts…

LG Mobile Phones

Smartphones also got a mention in the event, with a new LG Chocolate model announced to replace to the current LG Chocolate (BL40), and news that more Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Mobile 7 phones were due to be released. This includes the much rumoured LG Expo with a Snapdragon CPU.

LG Netbook

Finally LG’s netbook, the X120, got a mention also, now running Windows 7. If you’re not familiar with the X120, it’s generally your run of the mill netbook with run of the mill netbook specs. Despite this, it does have its good points, such as the built in 3G and GPS technology.

Summary

What are you most excited by from what LG has to offer? They seem to have come out with quite a few innovations for their range of flat panel high definition TVs this year, are you in the market for a new TV, do these new features sound like something that would make you choose an LG TV?

It’ll be great to finally see some Windows Mobile 7 phones hit the market before the end of the year, but are Microsoft too late with their latest Mobile OS? What with Android and iPhone OS seemingly dominating the market, no to mention the recently announced Nexus One, the Google Phone, have they missed their opportunity altogether?
