Let’s Golf is a title from Gameloft that has been available on the iPhone since 2009, and has gone down well with customers on the small screen. Naturally, when the Apple iPad tablet was released, the game was given a HD tag and made available for Apple’s new platform, so let’s take a look at Let’s Golf! HD iPad app!
iPhone users who have already purchased Let’s Golf for the small screen may be slightly disappointed to hear that the title is exactly the same game as the original as far as the courses are concerned. Of course, the graphics have seen an improvement in the games’ transition to the big(ger) screen, but if you aren’t too bothered about the updated graphics, you could simply load the iPhone app on to the iPad and have a similar experience.
As far as gameplay is concerned, you have a number of options to choose from. If you just want to have a quick game without taking anything too seriously, then you can tap on the ‘Instant Play’ option to simply choose a character and load up a course. As well as this option, there’s also the option to play in tournament mode, which keeps track of your golfing career as you make your way up to the pro’s. You can select four locations, ranging from Fiji to England, and take on three difficulty levels: easy, medium or hard.
Each location has four types of gameplay for you to master, too. You can play a game of 9 holes, from the first to the ninth on the course. Likewise, you can play a game of 9 holes which are the tenth to the eighteenth on the course, before taking on your opponents on all 18 holes. Once you’ve worked your way past these three, there’s also a 9 hole shuffle, which is comprised of 9 randomly chosen holes from the course that you have chosen.
Gameplay is really simple. To hit the ball, you simply have to tap the pulsing circle, which brings up a slider. Tap the circle again when the pointer is as close to the marker on the slider as it can be – this controls how powerful your shot is. You then have to tap the circle for a final time to make sure your shot is accurate on the second slider on the screen. This all sounds awfully complicated in words, but trust me, you get used to it in minutes, and it’s a great way to control your shot.
When the ball is in the air, a golf ball appears in the left corner of your screen. Slide your finger across it to give it spin in any direction that you desire. This includes back-spin, so you can stop the ball in its tracks once it is back on the ground – this is probably a better way of playing than that of CustomPlay Golf 2010 on the PC.
If you want to play the game with someone else, you should check out the multiplayer option available, too. This gives you the option of playing with one iPad in “hot seat” mode, or playing wirelessly with another iPad near to you.
Let’s Golf HD is a really fun game to play on the iPad, and it definitely makes the most of the large screen of the device, too. If you want to get it for yourself, you can do so for just £2.99 from the App Store.
