LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 – Build And Program Your Own LEGO Robot!
LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 is probably the most amazing thing you will ever see in your whole life. Well, almost. This super advanced robot allows you to build your very own machine out of not so ordinary LEGO.
Considering you can construct this thing yourself with little or no knowledge of building robots, it is excitingly capable. There are 4 different types of robot possible to construct from the set, which comes with instructions for all 4 in the box along with a quick start guide and easy to use ‘drag and drop’ software to program and control your robot from your computer.
The 4 robots available are Shooterbot, Robogator, Colour Sorter and Alpha Rex. Firstly, Shooterbot is a vehicle robot that is capable of basically just moving and shooting coloured balls which could be pretty fun but of seems quite limited.
Secondly, Robogator is a similar robot which snaps its alligator-esque jaws rather than shoots balls.
Colour sorter is a different kind of robot. One of the more friendly kind. It uses a claw with a RGB colour sensor to distinguish between the different colour balls and sorts them according to what it finds.
Lastly, and best of all is the Alpha Rex. The ultimate LEGO robot. A humanoid robot that can walk, talk and dance. It also uses sensors to detect obstacles and avoid them.

The brains behind the robot is a USB friendly ‘block’ featuring a 32-bit micro processor which can be controlled via your computer or mobile phone via bluetooth.
This extraordinary robot construction that is the LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 set completely outclasses other alternative DIY robot kits, so of course, it doesn’t come cheap, but £199.95 doesn’t seem too unreasonable to me when you consider the price of far less capable kits and you are getting a great combination of LEGO and robots, what big kid wouldn’t appreciate it? It really is a fantastic gift that will provide hours of entertainment, it reminds me of the Lego Johnny 5 from a few years back!
