Justgiving.com - Raise Money for Charity Online

Just Giving LogoJustgiving.com is a website that a friend of mine has brought to my attention having recently set up an online donation webpage for an upcoming charity event.

Raising money for charity is a great thing to do, however one of the worst aspects for most people will probably be the actual admin involved is actually going around recording all their sponsors’ donations and then after the event then having to chase everyone up again to collect the money.

Justgiving.com is a great way of making the whole process much more efficient by using modern technology – by setting up a dedicated webpage for people to sponsor you online at their own leisure!

* Creating your fundraising page should take around 5 minutes — that’s it!

* Choose the event you are doing and the charity you want to raise money for.

* If you don’t have one already, register for a Justgiving account.

* Give your page a title, write a message to your friends and add a photo.

* Email the address of your page to everyone you know, here and abroad, and start collecting donations online!

Once you’ve created your Justgiving page for your charity event, you can then distribute the link by emailing your friends or even posting it on social networks such as Facebook. One of the great things is that once you have registered, it makes setting up further charity events very easy and equally it makes it very easy for users to donate to various charities since you can just log in and be charitable!

Justgiving do charge a small transaction fee, however this is more than covered by the tax bonus that any taxpayer is entitled to through the Gift Aid scheme – I think overall you’d still make more for your charity by using a page like this since it is so much easier for all concerned.

If you’re based in the USA, then you can use their American site which is called Firstgiving.com.

You can see what the end result is like by taking a look at my friends’ Justgiving page which is for taking part in this year’s Race for Life as “Team NYP” – with the proceeds going to Cancer Research UK.

Have you used this system for charity donations before? Would you be more inclined to sponsor/be sponsored with the admin tasks taken out of your hands?
