Is ‘Angry Birds: The Movie’ On The Way?

Usually I would be one of the first to make my disapproval public when a company decides to turn a game into a movie. They’re seldom a real success and traditionally gaming doesn’t translate well onto the big screen in my opinion.
However, an interesting statement made by Rovio, developers of popular the Angry Birds iPad and iPhone game app, regarding a movie of the game has my ears well and truly pricked up.
According to the company, there has been interest from several parties looking to commercialise the game further, including various movie studios looking to cash in on the game, which has racked up nearly seven million downloads from the app store.
Chief Exec Mikael Hed has made his intentions for the expansion of the title perfectly clear and has said he wants to see the Angry Birds brand become much more than games, akin to Pixar with Toy Story, so games and movies would just be the tip of the iceberg.
It certainly is an interesting proposal that has sparked interest around the web today, so what’s your take on the whole situation? Would you be inclined to go and see a movie based off an Angry Birds iPhone or iPad app game should it ultimately be released?

Let’s hope that we never hear another rumour such as this again, shall we? I think the devs should just stick to what Angry Birds originally was: a light hearted, fun game meant to go no further than a mobile gaming platform…
Perhaps the devs would beg to differ about where Angry Birds was ‘meant’ to go. Perhaps they see it as a huge opportunity for a company with only this one big seller in them. Why shouldn’t they squeeze it for all it is worth? Anyway, it could be quite entertaining as long as it was done sensibly.
Angry birds is a great app but i doubt i would go to cinema to watch a film about it…
