iMac Line Updated – Core i3′s, New GPU’s, New Options – Still Sexy!

In addition to the Magic Trackpad, the latest Apple update has also seen the rumoured iMac update arrive on the scene too.  Starting at $1,199, the new range incorporated the Intel Core i3 processor for the first time in both the 21” and 27” options.

Of course, you can still opt for a Core i5 and even the Core i7 if you want to empty your wallet completely, but for now let’s concentrate on the new options. For starters, the entry-level 21” model now has a 1080p display, powered by the new Radeon HD 4670 GPU (256Mb), 4Gb DDR3 RAM and a 3.06Ghz Core i3 processor.

There is also a new model appearing for $1,499, which incorporates the same display, but upgrades the GPU to a 512Mb Radeon HD 5670, the Hard Drive from 500Gb to 1Tb, whilst keeping the 4Gb of memory.

Above that is when the new iMac updates start to get interesting. Featuring a 27-inch 2560×1440 LED-backlit display and the same 3.2Ghz Core i3 found in the $1,499 model. In addition to that there is the same hard drive, 4Gb of RAM and GPU found in the previous model.  However, you can opt for a 2Tb hard drive, 3.6Ghz Core I or even a 256Gb SSD and up to 16Gb RAM if you feel it necessary.

The flagship offering weighs in at a mighty $1,999 for a 2.8Ghz Core i5, but this time its quad-core. Traditional 4Gb DDR3 RAM, and 1Tb Hard Drive, but a new Radeon HD 5750 GPU (1Gb). Keeping the same display as the cheaper 27-inch display, and including all the upgrade options listed above too.

So, an impressive refresh since the last iMac update seeing many new parts that will ultimately make it arguably the most powerful, most beautiful all-in-one PC on offer at the moment. Included in all bundles are a wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse, but you’ll have to go buy that Magic Trackpad separately unfortunately.
