I’m a PC! (Advert) Are you a PC?
I’m a PC! Well I use a Windows PC anyway. After seeing Microsoft’s first couple of “funny TV commercials” starring the “comedic” double-act of Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld in which in true Seinfeld-style, they appeared to be ‘adverts about nothing’, you may have been scratching your head about all the potential hidden meanings!
However, perhaps the marketing worked, because at least they made people talk about Microsoft again and not in a Vista-bashing kind of way neither. The third TV advert now seems to have gone more mainstream with only a quick one-liner from Bill Gates and no appearance at all from Jerry Seinfeld – although Microsoft have said that he will return in future adverts.
The “I’m a PC” advert features lots of different and diverse people all saying that they use a PC, including a few famous faces interspaced with lots of regular people.
I think this message that Microsoft are putting across that people all round the world are happy to say they’re a PC user is a nice positive comeback to the more negative ‘I’m a PC - I’m a Mac’ adverts that Apple have put out in the past.
Take a look at it below and see what you think to it. I think it’s quite a stylish and positive advert as adverts go, I try to avoid them normally, but this works well in my opinion – what do you think?

ohhhh dear, “i’m a pc and i sell fish” lol.
well, i’m a pc, just not a very politically correct pc… and neither am i ashamed to say i love windows, blue screens taboot!
I saw these advertisements on YouTube the other week and came to the same conclusion. It seems like the main marketing goal is to basically alter the way we refer to “the computer”. At least from my perspective, I think that people (ie. non-enthusiasts) usually regard the PC as “the computer” and not a Windows OS run machine because after all PC stands for ‘personal computer. Hence the advertisement is trying to drill into our subconcious and switch the assosciations around.
At the same time the celebrities and style of production create that postive, proud assertation of being a PC user, that is; a consumer of Windows. Like you said.
I’m a PC and I wear Conquistadors. They’re a little tight.
I wear Conquistadors. They’re a little tight.Real video thanks
Surely you have to have walls to have windows !?
What an utterly useless advert. Just like Microsoft to go for world domination. Trying to get us to link a PC with Microsoft like linking the word Hoover to the device that everyone uses to help vacuum their homes. I would never Upgrade (oxymoran) to Vista, as that is a peice of software for newbies and is totally useless for anyone with an ounce of software experience. I am constantly hacked off with the security issues in Microsoft software that I am seriously thinking of changing to Linux. Microsoft, just because you cant buy google and gain an ounce or respect in the web based enviroment, then please dont get us to accept the term of linking a PC with Microsoft, with It may work if you had a reliable product in the first place, but you have taken a retrograde step back with Vista. PS. and anyone who thinks the “I am a PC” adverts are FUNNY???? really need a sence of humour transplant, Eddie Murphy is funny, Chris Rock is funny, Billy Connolly is Funny, THIS ADVERT ISNT. I AM A PC But not a Microsft Windows without walls user and the sooner we disociate a PC away from Microsoft the better, A PC can be used for much more than Microsoft limited, security issued software.
