HP Confirms New WebOS Mobile Phone Handsets Coming Q1 2011

Speaking at an industry conference today in Barcelona, senior vice president of HP Eric Cador has finally confirmed that the company will be manufacturing new phones running the mobile operating system created by the recently acquired Palm.
Of course this is nothing unexpected, but it is the first time that we can actually say for sure that by early next year the Pre and Pixi will have some company when it comes to runnings Palm’s impressive OS that has thus far gone relatively unnoticed in the mainstream mobile market, with the majority of people favouring Android or iOS 4.
There’s not a lot more than that to go on right now, but it should go without saying that it will feature Web OS 2.0 with all the latest fancy frills, and for fear of this entirely factual article turning into a spurt of rumour, there has been word spreading around the web that the new range of hardware will include the ‘Roadrunner HD’, featuring a retina display à la the iPhone 4.
So, updated software, new hardware and of course, new owners could give WebOS the kick up the backside that it really, desperately needs if it is going to compete in an increasingly crowded mobile phone market, particularly now with Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 coming out later this month.
