Google Me Rumours – YouTube & Online Media Integration Spells Danger For Facebook & iTunes’ Ping?

The much talked about new Google social network, Google Me, is finally getting a few more details. In fact, the new rumours are actually quite exciting and will seemingly aim to draw two of the world’s largest websites together in an interesting fashion.
Let me elaborate, Google Me is reportedly adding a ‘social layer’ to Google’s wealth of services including YouTube, predictably allowing you to share, post and discuss videos as well as other media and documents using the other services – it’s been reported that this social layer will be built off Google Buzz.
On top of that, it is rumoured that Google intend to draw information from potential rival Facebook in order to immediately grab a huge base of users. Perhaps Steve Jobs should take note at this point after whatever rumoured dispute was had over Ping and it being deprived it of its Facebook integration.
It is unclear as yet how the whole thing will work, of course, however it is unfolding into a potentially pretty neat alternative, or perhaps addition, to the mighty Facebook.
Will a real competitor in the social media world of ‘like-ing’ videos, music and much more seal the fate of the so far uninspiring iTunes 10′s Ping? It all remains to be seen, but stay tuned for more news on Google Me, Ping and the ‘liking’ of online media content as the months roll on.
