Google Maps – Directions from New York to London

Google Maps is a website that you can use to get maps and satellite imagery of anywhere in the world, one of the main features includes giving you step-by-step directions from A to B.

I’ve seen this in a few places on the Internet so far, but thought it was worthy of mention here in case you hadn’t seen it yet.

Normally you get some pretty accurate directions from using this Google product, however if you follow the steps below, you’ll see it would appear that someone at Google who has a sense of humour is checking you’re paying attention!

  1. Go to www.google.com
  2. Click on “Maps”
  3. Click on “Get Directions” link
  4. Type “New York” in the “Start address” box
  5. Type “London” in the “End Address” box
  6. Click on “Get Directions” button
  7. Scroll down to step #24

Best pack your swimwear in case you need to do some swimming at any point on your trip from New Yorks to London!

My guess is that they purposely did this to inject some fun into their site. :D

I’m guessing that’s the case lyndonmaxewell, also I wonder if it was done for viral marketing – it’s certainly got a lot of attention around the Internet for Google Maps and hasn’t been changed yet.

But in most cases (within the land), it shows pretty good calculations…I quite often use them…

I find the directions on Google Maps are good, I just wish the time durations were a bit more accurate – I often find a 1hr journey will typically be estimated at more than 1.5hrs.

Other than that, I find Google Maps (and Earth) to work really well.

I used to use MapQuest back in the day. But Google Maps are so much better.
