Google Mail Themes
Google have had a busy week! In addition to offering Gmail video and voice chat, Google Mail themes are now available within their webmail interface.
Over the past few years since Gmail went live, the interface itself has had a few minor tweak and modifications along the way, but it’s been essentially the same kind of look from the start. There has been some option of customisation offered by people using scripts and extensions in their Firefox browser, however there are now a variety of themes on offer from within Google Mail.
All you need to do is go to Settings -> Themes -> Choose your theme and it is then applied – very easy to change!
The new option offers 30 new themes to choose from which vary widely from slight colour differences, to those offering a complete skinning of the interface such as:
- A notepad theme,
- Nature scenery themes,
- Weather-based themes,
- iGoogle style themes that Google have been using for a while now.
I’m sure you’ll all be able to find one that suits you, however I’ve looked though them all and have been left thinking that I like that Google have put in the effort to provide their Google Mail users with some choice, however I hope they keep developing some more as I still personally prefer the “classic” which has been Google Mail’s standard theme for the past few years – clean, smart design which makes it nice and easy to use on a day-to-day basis.
What do you think to these new Google Mail themes? Do you like them? Which one is your favourite?

Themes has really taken Gmail to another level of fun and I am really loving it. But, I am still a big fan of the Gmail Redesigned Stylish script you have lined in your post (appreciate the link). The classic is definitely faster but I am one of those people who get bored fast with the same look day in and day out.

I’ve tried a few different themes out since I wrote this and I keep on going back to the standard basic one – perhaps I just find the other ones too distracting while I’m trying to work and sort through my emails?
Ah well, I’m glad other people are really liking these Google Mail themes!
