Google ‘Instant Search’ Launched – Billions of Lives/Search Queries Changed Forever?

With nigh on 1 billion visitors per month, and over a billion searches per day, Google is still the big name player in search engines, despite the best efforts of Microsoft and Yahoo down the years.
Well now the Mountain View-based company has taken search to the next level of innovation with ‘instant search’, which will hopefully dramatically speed up the way we search.
So What Is Google Instant Search? Well, it is a simple concept, but in reality is an astounding achievement by Google.
Where as before your searches were predicted in a drop down menu as you typed, Google Instant Search accurately predicts what you are typing, as you type it, and displays the complete list of results live. As you continue to type, it changes the top prediction as ever, so updates the results accordingly.
So OK, it’s not really going to change your life, but things are headed in the right direction and as ever, time is money in the hustle and bustle of the 21st Century so no more scrolling through predictions, no more pressing enter and saving seconds on a search sounds sweet to me!
Instant Search is up and running already for most logged-in users, so head on over to the world’s favourite website right now, make sure you’re logged into your Google account and then check it out for yourself.
What do you think to this new Google Instant Search option? Is it revolutionary as far as you’re concerned? Does it make it easier to find what you’re looking for or do you find it distracting from your original search query as you end up using suggested search terms instead? And perhaps in the future we might see the same functionality integrated into the Google Chrome web browser‘s built in search bar.
