Google Android 4.0 Update Named ‘Ice Cream’ Already?

android-logoIt’s no secret that Google are a lot less secretive when it comes to detailing future plans than its biggest rival in the mobile market, Apple, and today even more potential details have been revealed about the coming versions of the ever-increasingly popular mobile phone and tablet platform; Android.

In keeping with its rather novelty naming scheme from every version of Android so far, with it progressing alphabetically throughout the versions and always after some sort of dessert, for instance the most recent update was Android 2.2 named Froyo (Frozen Yoghurt), Android 4.0 which is to be the successor of version 3.0 ‘Honeycomb’ will, according the president of ARM, Tudor Brown, be unimaginatively named ‘Ice Cream’.

So, while there are no specific details about the OS itself, the name is always nice to look forward to and Android fans, of which I predict there will be even more come version 4.0 ‘Ice Cream’, will already be getting excited about the potential path the platform is taking, particularly with when it comes to tablets and the next Android Gingerbread update.

However, there is no release date yet, and even when it does arrive how long will it take the networks to send it out to end users? Don’t get too excited for this version just yet, it’s a little premature.

So who would have thought it, eh? A dessert beginning with ‘I’ would be ‘Ice Cream’ and will perhaps end up on your Android tablet. Can you think of any other possibilities? Or ideas for future Android version update names beyond that of Ice Cream? Feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
