‘Games Basement’ Enters The Games Marketplace!
Games Basement is a new independent internet-based games retailer which has recently launched on the 5th May 2009 aiming to provide something a little different to the large established corporate companies from which you can currently buy your games and gaming-related products from.
Games Basement are trying to offer something different, these guys are approaching this business from that of being a gaming fan and as such as very conscious of wanting to build a website to buy games from which not only offers some great deals, but also remind you why you might be playing games in the first place…this can be seen from their use of classic gaming character imagery throughout their website – that alone evokes a certain gaming nostalgia from just browsing their site.

I think there’s definitely scope for something different in the online games retailing sector as a lot of the current online stores are fairly similar with regards to their approach, often you find the same kind of offers and sales across the various sites. I’ve personally found in the last year that many of their prices are tending to line up with each other, particularly when it comes to pre-order prices – I remember when you could usually be confident of finding the latest release of Football Manager at one or two retailers for £17.99, however with the Football Manager 2009 update, I seem to remember it being £24.99 at all the regular games retailers, perhaps it’s a sign of the times?
These guys certainly know their gaming, this can also be seen from following Games Basement on Twitter, for example they recently had discussions about what games should be classed as being in the Top 10 best ever games and are often tweeting about the games they are playing.
Games Basement are striving to be the most complete games retailing website out there by offering cheap prices, a rewards scheme, a buy-back scheme and of course, free fast delivery to make sure you can get down to the important business of games playing as soon as possible!
Here’s a few examples of the bargain deals that these guys have got on offer so far:
- Little Big Planet = £9.49
- Wii Fit = £64.99
- Velvet Assassin (Xbox 360) = £29.99
- Wanted Weapons of Fate = £20.99 on PS3 and Xbox 360
- More Brain Training = £13.00
Games Basement have put together a great website with their designers in less than 4 weeks before launch despite having a much smaller budget than their larger corporate competitors. Have you used them yet, let us know what you think by commenting below.

My first thoughts for this site are not the best. I placed an order on the 12th of October for a DS game, this gift is for my girlfriends little girl who’s birthday is on the 28th and so for once i was rather impressed with myself for being pre-prepared and buying early. It was the price of the game that initially drew my attention, £13 for a game with an RRP of over £20, not bad at all…and the free delivery is a bonus too! Play.com also offer free delivery, but ive noticed following my last few orders with Play that deliveries are taking longer to arrive every time and for this reason I gave GamesBasement a shot…bad idea! The email order confirmation i recieved was a VERY basic one and kinda gave an anxious feeling i had just purchased an item from a bogus website. But 9 days on now and this is the only email i have recieved, no ‘payment recieved’, no ‘order dispatched’ emails, just still ‘order recieve’. and this is the same on my account via there site. I tried calling today (but lines are not being answered due to staff training) because as of tomorrow Royal Mail go on strike…Brilliant! it looks like i wont be getting this in time. Ok GamesBasement are a new company and and for this i should give them there due, ie development may be in pipeline over notifications emails and account activity but its the early days that you need to be at your best. You need a customer to be happy from the off in order to lure them back again and again and its for this experience that i ask myself again and again..is buying on the net really worth the hassle instead of popping to my local store. Price wise yes but efficiency..i dont know.

I have to agree with both users above. They are appalling. I made an order on 29th September, they took payment immediately for an item they still haven’t supplied. I can only assume they’re bogus. Phones are never answered, emails have never been replied to. I have the same sinking feeling. I’d stay away from them…

Just to give you an update on my order. After alot…and i mean alot of unanswered calls and and never receiving an email reply to an order query…i FINALLY got through to GamesBasement today. Of the previous 15 days my order could have been dispatched its today that it is conveniently in the packing dept and therefore my cancellation/refund request is too late. It may actually be in the packing dept. but im annoyed now so i like to think convenietly. And so im now going to have to pay £2/3 to send the item back and get my refund.
GB – Your prices are good so sort out your reliability and customer service and you may get some where at these important times.

I used GB just a couple of weeks ago, came across them when searching for the new God of War. I didn’t think it was being released in the UK so I gave them a call to find out if they really had it. Spoke to a nice lady who said they would have it when released, she even gave me an estimated date of when I would recieve it, so I place my order.
Now the game didn’t arrive on the date she gave but they did email me to tell me the game release date had been put back by 2 days
So all in all I was happy with them

i know of a few people like myself who have pre ordered the cod 2 prestige editionon the 16th october, money went straight out of my account. when trying to phone its either engaged or it rings and rings. i eventually got an an email, which stated rhat my purchase was being packed, and would be with me in 2-3 days. but next day i recieved an email stating that my order has not arrived from the states???? and would be another week!!! i eventually got an answeron the phone, and was told that it will be in stock in a week ,when asking the person on the phone about the hold up, he hung up on me!!!!
the idea of buying a pre order, is that you will recieve your purchase on the day of issue, not over a month later, also as its a limited edition, how limited is it if i have to wait this long, are they making more??????
at this rate i doubt that i will see my purchase till 2010.
im a very unhappy customer who will not deal with this company again.

I wanted to write in to reassure people that this company isn’t all bad. I ordered cooking mama 3 on DS last friday at 10am then decided to do a review on the company. Nearly had a heart attack when I read the reviews, so I actually went and phoned the company to cancel my order. I phoned at 10.30am (literally half an hour after making my order) and my call was answered within 2 mins. Spoke to a lady who was very nice and she reassured me that they were ‘tripping over’ the game I wanted and that there would be no problems, I didn’t give her my name or order number, just the game title. She said they had problems in the past with the preordered games, in that loads of people ordered them and then they had problems with supplying them all. She said for every bad comment you read there are thousands of customers who have had no problems, but they don’t leave reviews, its only the unhappy customers who do. Anyway I was reassured by this and went ahead with my order. It said usually dispatched within 24 hrs, they don’t include weekends so that meant it should have been dispatched by monday at 10 am. Kept checking my emails every 5 mins and then on tuesday at 4pm, got an email to say dispatched. Today is friday and the game has just arrived. So 5 working days isn’t bad at all, especially considering next week is christmas, I’ve waited longer on HMV. I’d say for those popular pre ordered games there might be problems (after reading the reviews) but on your normal released games I would be happy to buy from Games basement again.

I am appalled at this company – I ordered a Guitar Hero Band Bundle for PS3 on 1st Dec expecting it to arrive within 14 days. Guess what? My credit card has been charged but no item to date (and its 29th Dec today!). I have had the most disappointing Christmas as the game was intended to be a Christmas present for my sons. I phoned and emailed on more than 7 occassions and the last time I range, when it was finally answered by a human (I think) I was informed the item was being dispatched on Monday 21st Dec. I asked if I would receive it for christmas as I would be very disappointed if it didnt arrive by then and was informed yes, all orders were assumed to be despatched to arrive in time for Christmas! Now, no one is answering the phone – the line just cuts off. No response to a further two emails from me enquiring about this. Not sure what to do
I am so frustrated that I would like everyone to know NOT to order anything from this company
I guess I was desperate as most of the online companies I usually order from (Amazon, Game, Play.Com) didnt have the item in stock. Now I wish I hadnt bothered ordering through Gamesbasement as I have to sort out stopping my credit card payment from going through!
Whatever you do, please inform your friends and family and whoever you know, NOT to purchase anything from Games Basement. I wish I had read comments from other people above BEFORE I purchased from them I wouldnt be in this sorry position now. I didnt like not receiving a confirmation of payment received, or any notification of the date in which I was to receive my item.
They have to be the worst possible on line company.
They are a disgrace!

I paid for some Games Headphones £137.99 for my son 27th Nov,….still no sign with numerous promises ,…then promised refund…still no refund !!!!!! I am worried now that this money is gone for good.. tried contacting them last few days but the phones are off due to adverse weather conditions! Strange how the rest of the country still work …mind you checked and they are still taking orders!!…..they tell you to leave email…I have send 11 to date and not one reply….don’t waste your time!
Just as a by note I bought the same headphones from Game for £10 more but were delivered next day…shame this company cannot do same…no choice but to report to Trading Standards and Direct Selling as fraudulent trading.

I purchased a DS game on the 11th Dec for a Christmas present. A week later I had an email saying they had an issue with my address. I emailed them back to confirm the details where correct. Then nothing!!!
I have not received the game. I have sent approx 10 emails requesting an update on the order. I have tried to contact them by phone over the last 4 weeks and it is impossible to get through. At one point the phone line was unobtainable and I though the company had folded!
However, I have finally got through to someone this morning. I was requesting a refund. I was told this was not possible until I had filled in paper work stating the parcel had been lost in post etc. Infuriating! I feel it is highly unlikely I will ever receive this paperwork let alone the refund. Lesson learned – DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY!!!

To all people who have ordered and not received your item
Send them an email to tell them you are cancelling your order. Under UK Law you have the right to cancel your order before it has been dispatched.
1. call your card issuer and tell them about the cancellation and get your money back
2. contact Internet Shopping Is Safe – http://isisaccreditation.imrg.org as they are registered on there. Its obviously not very safe to order from them
Dont get stung again!

This company is terrible. Do not…. DO NOT…. order from them under any circumstances. Same problems as those noted above. Received e-mail confirming dispatch of an item then the next day was told it wasnt coming. They took money for a pre-order which they were blatantly unable to fulfil. I’m still waiting on a refund which they are telling me they have processed. My worst internet shopping experience ever!
