Free TV Video Online (Info)
Joost is a free TV video online service where you can watch a variety of different TV shows whenever is convenient to you; you’re not tied to TV schedules here.
Since it launched as a public Joost beta around May 2007 it’s been developed and various improvements made to the service along the way. Now what’s probably the most notable of changes that has been made is the fact that you no longer need to download and install a separate application in which to view the Joost TV programming content.
All you need to do now is visit the Joost website and register for an account - or login if you an account from using the Joost application like I did - for the first time in over a year I may add!
I think the main reason why I hadn’t used the Joost service in that length of time was probably because you were required to install the separate application and then run that everytime you wanted to watch something. Given that YouTube is so easy just to load up in your browser and immediately be watching videos that interest you, I think Joost really had to go down this route of making it simpler for users to access their service.
I’m pleased to say that it work fairly from what I’ve viewed so far, giving you the ability to watch high quality video, add favourites, receive recommendations and see what your friends are watching too. There’s a wide variation of content on offer too (a lot of which are from TV networks) which should mean that no matter what interests you, there should be some decent quality shows for you to watch – I’ve just been watching a few full length episodes of Derren Brown’s TV show off Channel 4.
Joost also has additional content sources being added all the time, one of the recent additions includes the whole syndication of the Revision3 Internet TV video content online which includes Diggnation, Totally Rad Show and Tekzilla – although they do seem to be older shows, perhaps there’s a delay in showing recent episodes as part of the syndication deal.
The only other thing I’d say about these kind of shows are given I normally watch some of these through iTunes without any additional advertising (other than the in-show sponsors), to see these with an additional (annoying) advert being shown occasional was a little annoying, but I guess it has to be funded somehow.
I think Joost is certainly a website to watch in both senses of the word, check it out as an alternative to YouTube with some higher quality (resolution-wise) free TV videos online, give it a try and let us all know what you think.
