Football Manager Live Update

Written by on June 22, 2008 · Filed under Games

football-manager-live-logoI recently wrote a Football Manager Live preview which outlined some of the features of the game and included a couple of videos showing what the current beta version looks and plays like.

More information is now starting to come out in the recent New Game Features#1: The Skills to pay the Bills news update about this massively multiplayer online (MMO) version of Football Manager, this includes some detailed information about how you start the game and what skills and reputation you have….or more accurately it confirms that you lack those at the start of the game and must work your way up from scratch, just as you would in real life!

One of the most intriguing new additions to the football management experience introduced by Football Manager Live is the skills system.

In the traditional offline FM games, users would take over at the helm of an existing team, and be able to bring in staff to perform certain jobs like scouting and coaching. In Football Manager Live, you create your own club, and you are ALL the staff.

To reflect the fact that you’re starting from scratch with no reputation or history, it makes sense that to begin with you don’t know every player in the world and how good they are- this is unlockable knowledge that you have to earn.

You can see Miles Jacobson of Sports Interactive speaking about the game in the videos below. He likens the game to a fantasy football style of game system, ie. you get so much money, but could only buy one or two really good players – this sounds good to me, so everyone will be starting on a level playing field and how success you end up being, will be more to do with how you play rather than initial reputations or having huge sums of money.

Zath Rovers will be starting out when Football Manager Live is released in Summer – which I presume will mean it should hopefully be with us by August/September 2008….although I’m personally starting to think it will be released later than that given we’ve not really even got any pre-orders at the online stores yet – I did find it listed on a New Zealand site called Gameplanet with the estimated release date shown as 31st October 2008.

In the meantime, you can keep up to date by checking out the official Football Manager Live website and also the following blogs which are following the development of the game and in most cases are also playing the game in it’s beta form.

For more discussion and information on Football Manager Live from the developers and people playing on the beta of the game, I’d suggest it’s worth taking a look at the Football Manager Live forums.

A Beta Invite for Zath?

Apparently existing members of the beta may be able to invite up to 5 other people to join in the beta, if this happens and anyone has a spare invite, please could you contact me about sending me an invite as I would really love to take a look at this game if at all possible, cheers!

What do you think to the upcoming FML game? Will you be there on release day eager to play it? Are you going to be getting your Football Manager Live pre-order placed once it’s listed at the big online stores?

This game has been in the works for so long, so it’d better be good ;)

I’m playing Hattrick and Football Manager (formerly CM), so I have to try out FML too. Depending on the price though.

  2. Zath 10:03 am 23rd June, 2008

I’m really hoping it pans out too Dennis, it’s probably the online game that I’m looking forward to right now, I still play WoW on and off, but this could be the next MMO for me!

I play Hattrick too, what’s your team called on Hattrick? Have a search for Zath Rovers if you want a friendly anytime!

  3. Luke 3:52 am 11th July, 2008

i play Trophy Manager. It’s a great Football Managment game and it’s free! http://trophymanager.com/index.php?ref=109005

  4. Zath 7:34 am 11th July, 2008

I’ve not heard of Trophy Manager before Luke, but I’ll definitely take a look at it and see if it’ll keep me busy till Football Manager Live is released if nothing else!

Send me a message when you do ‘Penrith Football Club’

  6. jamie 8:23 pm 14th July, 2008

will u be able to leave your club to go to another team and is there a season mode or just online

  7. Zath 9:44 pm 14th July, 2008

    @Luke – thanks, I will do, cheers!

@jamie – I’m not entirely sure as I’m not on the beta currently, however I would guess that you’d remain with your created club and this version of Football Manager will be online only. As far as I know there will still a new version of the regular game, ie. Football Manager 2009.

i play the offline pc version of football manager and i say its really good and improving with every edition.

hope this is gonna be good as i see it will add much more interactivity to the game when you pit yourself against other “managers” over the world !

it uses the esms software, if your not used to it its not that complicated to use.

The site isnt 100%, but I have tomorrow off so I expect to get it all sorted out.

I am currently short of one manager, so if you interested, dont hesitate to contact me via the site!

Hey Scott, thanks for the update on the FML beta – how did you manage to get on the beta, any tips for me?

I’ve had a quick look at your site, but will go back in a few days when you’ve had chance to work on it.

    Cheers!

I got the email yesterday saying spaces in a new world were availble, have a look at

    http://www.zath.co.uk/football-manager-live-update/

so i quicly replied and got one!

regarding my site, as mentioned I only have one space left, so if you want in let me know quickly!

  12. Scott 9:25 am 12th August, 2008

well the beta testing last night was a bit of a shambles!

Only 10% could actually log on, on the forum, the thread about signing in errors recieved something like 200 posts in 8 minutes!

I had a quick look before I came work, and it let me on, so when I get home the girlfriend is going in the shed, dog in the garage, and I am having the night to myself

  13. Zath 1:30 pm 12th August, 2008

I’m guessing from your experience, it sounds like I’m not missing that much not being in the Football Manager Live beta right now – I’m sure it’ll get better and all be worthwhile the pain once the game does get it’s release…whenever that maybe, still not heard anything other than what I’ve mentioned in the article above.

Does anyone else know more about potential release dates for this game?

Hope you have a good time playing it tonight, please let us know what you think to it when you get to play – I still hope to get onto the beta at sometime myself.

  14. kenny 2:28 pm 18th August, 2008

i did have the beta version of football manager live but got sick of it because i wasnt enjoying the game that much and i uninstalled it from my laptop. Is there any way i could get it back?

  15. Zath 2:41 pm 18th August, 2008

Hi Kenny, unfortunately I’m not sure myself – did you get an email originally with a link to download the beta? Would you still have that?

Does anyone here who is on the beta, have a better idea of how you can re-install FML once it’s been uninstalled?

  16. kenny 7:31 pm 20th August, 2008

I think i got an email but unfortunately i deleted it once i had installed FML :(

  17. eurosoccer 4:18 pm 24th September, 2008

I have very little experience with these types of things but it does sound like something I could get into. thanks :)
