Football Manager Live PreviewWritten by Simon Barker on April 29, 2008 · Filed under Games
Football Manager Live is coming! Football Manager has always been a great game for any football fan all the way back to it’s original incarnation as Championship Manager. It has always been the game that sets the bar for other manager games to live up to, whether it’s the game engine itself, general game features or innovations such as multiplayer – firstly over a network and now in the era of broadband, we can play against our friends over the Internet.
Sports Interactive are now creating an evolution of the game which is taking Football Manager into being a massively multiplayer game (MMO) called Football Manager Live where you create a football club – eat, breathe and live your very own football club which then plays against opposing teams that are also managed by real people.
Some of Football Manager Live’s game features include:
1. Create and manage YOUR very own football club
YOU create your team name, colours, badge & home ground and YOU decide which players to sign.
2. Show the world how good you are
Play against your mates or other managers from around the globe in a gameworld that’s LIVE and online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
3. Develop your club
Use the innovative skill system to develop and improve your managerial style; unlock bonuses that will give you the edge.
4. Play the game your way
The AI/Stand in manager takes control of your matches when you’re not online.
5. Create and run your own mini-leagues and cup competitions
Take on the best or compete for bragging rights against your mates.
6. Manage matches live
If a game’s not going your way, change tactics on-the-fly from the virtual dugout. Will YOU take the glory?
I think that sounds as though it will be a combination of a traditional Football Manager game and Hattrick (manager) – the webpage-based online football management game that I’ve been playing for the past 2-3 years.

Football Manager Live has been in beta for around a year now, so hopefully the anticipated release date of sometime around summer 2008 will prove to be accurate, as being the Football Manager fan… *cough*addict*cough* that I am, it means I’m rather eager to get started! While I have tried to get a place in the beta, I haven’t succeeded as yet, so I’ll be there waiting for it on release day having taken a day off work!
Until It’s Released…
In the meantime, you can check out my Football Manager 2008 review or get the latest Football Manager 2008 Patch v8.0.2 and get playing that for the time being, then while you’re playing that, you could listen to the Football Manager Podcast and also take a look at the Football Manager Live Facebook page!
Are you looking forward to this game as well? Do you think this will add a new dimension to the Football Manager series? Do you think you’ll be wanting to buy it? If so, let me know and we can try and organise being on the same gamer server so we can play against each other!
