I have to be honest and say that I’ve only recently got into Family Guy. I have season 1 on DVD and would watch it every now and then, but I’ve started watching it a lot more recently and I love it.
I saw the first Family Guy Star Wars film and thought it was ok compared to the TV show, so when I got this I wasn’t really expecting it to be amazing, but I found Family Guy: Something, Something, Something Dark Side lot of this to be pure comedy genius.
The Star Wars Parody
Right from the beginning when the usual Star Wars line “A long time ago in a Galaxy Far, Far away..” has been replaced with something that I can’t repeat as I might upset some people, came up, I was quite literally laughing out loud.
Some of the classic lines from Empire Strikes Back have been giving the Family Guy touch with the best of the bunch when Leia says “I love you” to Han Solo just before the carbon freeze and, well…..you have to watch it to see Han’s amazing reply that had me in stitches. Herbert the pervert is back as Obi Wan and of course is trying to get Chris to take his clothes off, “Luke! Luke! Pull your pants down”.
There are a few jokes within the film that I just didn’t find funny but it seemed like these were the kind of jokes aimed at American audiences which we just won’t get but someone out there will have found them hilliary-hairy-arse. Stewie didn’t seem to have enough of his Stewie moments as Darth Vader for my liking, but it was still great to see the world’s most evil baby playing the evilest of movie bad guys.
The extras are pretty good, but nothing to write home about. There’s the usual commentary that’s the token extra of most DVD’s nowadays and a Family Guy fact extra which I really enjoyed amongst others.
You can watch the film again and have random facts pop up throughout the film which ranges from facts about the actual film to others that says too much dairy in your diet can lead to Parkinson’s disease……………………another extra which I liked was a short clip of some of the cast and crew at a reading for the next Family Guy Star Wars film which sounds quite good from what you get to see.
The part they read through is when Han is released from carbon freeze and he ends up farting in Leia’s face as it “had been building up for a while”.
Overall I was impressed with the latest Family Guy Star Wars parody, and found it a lot funnier than ‘Blue Harvest’. If you’re a fan of Family Guy, you’ll love Family Guy: Something, Something, Something Dark Side, if you’re not, maybe you should watch it anyway as it might convert you over to the dark side.
