Eurogamer Expo 2010 Announced (London Games Show)

eurogamer-logoJust like to start off by saying………….balls!

I saw the title of the news and was excited at the fact that the Eurogamer Expo was to be again showing its face in 2010…………………..in London only!! What the hell!!

With Zath HQ being up North in God’s country (that’s Yorkshire to those who don’t know) it was great that we had the option to get to the Eurogamer Expo at the Royal Armouries in Leeds last year!

We did cover the London Eurogamer Expo too, but it annoys me how everything is based in London.

Wouldn’t have been that bad if they’d have moved it to Manchester or even Birmingham NEC would have been central for everyone. Unfortunately, the cost of travelling to London these days makes it a very expensive journey for multiple people, it’ll probably be cheaper for us to take flights to Germany for GamesCom in August instead!

The Eurogamer Expo in Leeds was a great chance for us Northerners to experience a games expo and not have to travel to London. Eurogamer have said…

“We had a great time oop north, but this year we have decided to focus on one event and try to make it bigger, better, and more utterly badass than everything we’ve done before put together”

Just like to add… “oop north”?………..tha’ int even right lad! We don’t pronounce it “oop”. We’re not toffs!

Anyhow, after my venting, last years expo’s in both Leeds and London were a success and it’s great to see that the Eurogamer Expo will be back again in 2010. With them focussing in just one event, it might attract some of the bigger companies to the event and will hopefully lead to being the English rival to re-invigorated E3! If it does they might give people with a press pass free tea and jam roly poly! Here’s hoping anyway.

So what do you think to this news? Are you from up North and annoyed at the news, or do you live “darn sarf” and find it funny that us Northerners lose out yet again? Let us know in the comments below.

I attended the Leeds show in October last year and had a great time, although I do wish some of my friends had come along…

I can understand Eurogamer’s logic in concentrating on one event, I’m fairly sure having 2 events separated by over 100 miles but running straight after each other didn’t help with organisation. I hope they will extend the London event, to make it a 3-4 day event rather than the 2 day events like last year, this should hopefully give enough of a window for people to travel and attend if they wish to do so.

It was really nice to have something like this for gamers north of Staffordshire to have the opportunity of advanced previews and actually getting their hands on games in advance of their release. But, sadly, I think most northeners will turn up their collective noses at going down to London because of the travelling costs

If anyone asks me about going, then I always recommend having a wander around. Not only can you play advanced previews of games that might not be released for months after, but you get to meet and talk to like-minded gaming folk and my personal favourite, have a look at what some of the independent games companies are up to.

Hopefully I’ll still find time to go this year, even if I have to do a mental London run from Leeds in one day…
