E3 2010 Preview (Gaming Expo)
Written by Ender on June 12, 2010 · Filed under Games
It only seems a few months ago that we were talking about our E3 2009 preview and all of a sudden, it’s back again!
Yes folks, it’s that time of the year where all us gamers get a little bit excited about what news will pop up across the pond at E3 2010. Rumours always circulate in the months leading up to E3 like the PSP2, a slim Xbox 360, GTA 5 to name a few, and we’ll find out whether or not these are true in a few days.
E3 this year will run from June 15-17 and the biggest and best companies from around the globe will be showing us their best products and tell us what we can expect from them this time around. So here’s a short rundown as to some of the ones I’m most eager to hear about from the US of A this year…
Project Natal
There’s been reports that Microsoft are to drop the ‘Project Natal‘ working title and reveal the official name of the 360 motion sensing ‘peripheral’. I’m more interested in this over anything at E3 2010 as it can potentially change the way we play games. First gamers had to use wired Xbox controllers, then came the wireless Xbox 360 controllers and now this is definitely an exciting prospect. But I’ll be looking to see if it can deliver. I still have my doubts, but I’m hoping that it can do everything I expect and more…along with a decent price tag.
Playstation Move
Sony have come out saying this will be better than Wii Motion Plus which a bold statement. Nintendo have been the ones to beat for motion sensing gameplay for a few years now and it’ll be interesting to see if Sony’s claims can live up to expectations and give Nintendo a run for their money. Let’s hope that it’s not just poor third party games that get released for Playstation Move motion controller and we see some serious AAA titles breaking some gaming records along the way.
Nintendo 3DS
Just how much better can the DS get? Nintendo really do go for gameplay over graphics, but this time around, the graphics are vastly improved…..and……er…..oh yeah! It’s going to be in 3D. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this plays. If it performs than surely it’s bound to smash the rumoured Sony PSP 2 out of the water? Isn’t it? Let’s just see if the PSP2 is a reality and what it has in store for us first. But I am excited about the potentially named Nintendo 3DS.
3D Playstation Games
It was only a matter of time until we were to get 3D PS3 games. The only downside to it is that you have to have a 3D-ready TV, which are way too expensive for me at the minute. From the reports I’ve read, it is really impressive and another step towards the ultimate gaming experience. What’s next? Virtual Reality? Now there’s an idea.
Fable III
Fable has always had mixed reviews. Some people love it, others hate it as Peter Molyneux fails to deliver on his promises. I personally am a fan of the Fable games and I’m looking forward to seeing how Lionhead incorporate Fable III with ‘Natal’ and if it’s going to work, especially given their early Project Natal ‘Milo’ artificial intelligence they demonstrated at last year’s E3. Will this finally be the game Molyneux has been promising and bring disappointed gamers back to the Fable games. I’m sure we’ll find out in a few days.
Medal of Honor
Another company bigging up their product. People are saying this could be the game to knock Call of Duty from its perch, which gets my attention and made me put Call of Duty: Black Ops further to the back on my list. That’s a massive statement following the phenomenal success of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. I’m not even sure this year’s COD instalment ‘Black Ops’ will be able to better that.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1
Years of shocking versions of the speedy blue hedgehog have left fans in tears. Could this latest attempt at a new Sonic the Hedgehog be the game that fans have been crying out for since the Mega Drive days and give us a taste of the old skool ways and show the kids of today what real gaming used to be like when my generation were growing up? Fingers crossed this is back to Sonic’s best and we won’t be disappointed.
There are tons of other things that I’m looking out for at E3 2010, but these are the ones I’ll be keeping a beady eye on. I’m sure there’ll be a few of you who have a completely different list and disagree with my choices. Well let us know what you’re looking forward to this year below in the comments.
This year we’re lucky enough to have one of the Zath team who will be reporting from E3 2010 which we’re all very excited about, and can’t wait to see what inside news we can obtain from the biggest gaming event of the year.
Stay tuned to Zath for regular E3 2010 news and in the meantime you can take a look at a comprehensive list of the expected E3 games that will be on show.
