Download Unreal Engine 3 Development Kit – Free Game Design Software!

Have you ever wanted to play around with the Unreal Engine 3? Yes the Unreal Engine 3 that is used to create some of the best video games currently out there (some of which were on display at the recent Eurogamer Expo), well now you have your chance!

Epic Games have released a free version of their Unreal Engine 3 to the world to use the impressive software. You can download the Unreal Development Kit and have full access to the Unreal Editor, Unreal Content Browsers and Unreal Script to name a few.

The software has become available for free to non-commercial and educational users, but if you make a game and want to make it commercial, there will be some terms that you’ll have to check up on.

Some of you may think that once you’ve downloaded it, that’s it. No updates or support, just a free version to play around on? Well you’d be wrong to think this as there will be regular software updates made available for the Unreal Engine.

They’re also considering console support which means we could be seeing it on PS3’s and Xbox 360’s maybe? Would this start competitions on the consoles for people to create Indie games and the winner getting their game published? Who knows, but if that does happen it would be great fun.

I’ve downloaded mine already, however I haven’t had chance to play around on it yet, but I’ll be thinking up some crazy ideas for some cool games and trying my hand at them. This is great for people wanting to get into the games industry as it will give them some experience in how to create things for games and if you end up being a natural, could look good on a showreel if you’re looking for a job.
