Download Speed Test

Do you need to use a free download speed test? Well if you’re not sure quite what broadband speed you are getting for your money – I mean you may be paying for “up to 8mb speeds” as the ISPs like to sell you in the adverts, but unless you’re sat right next to the exchange, you’re probably getting less than that, in some cases, a lot less which means a much slower speed, so let’s test it out now!

This free download speed test will tell you in a matter of seconds what your download and upload speeds currently are, so you know exactly what you’re paying for!

All you have to do is click the button below and the free download speed test (internet speedometer) will get to work by downloading a test file and then uploading the test file and it measures how long it takes to do both of these tasks. To ensure an accurate reading, make sure you’re not using your internet connection for anything else at the time!

Zath! Download Speed Test

The download speed test (internet speed checker) measures your connection speed in Kbps (kilobits per second), there are approximately 1000Kbps to 1MB/s which is what your broadband connection is usually referred to.

For example, my typical result (having run the test a few times over the last few days) on my ADSL internet connection is:

Internet Service Provider: Freeola
Download Speed: 3016Kbps = 3MB/s
Upload Speed: 344Kbps = 0.34MB/s

    I gave this a bash. I have to say I’ve been pretty pleased with Orange (especially as they recently agreed my Home Max package for £17.99 a month) including unlimited useage, upto 8mb braoadband and free anytime calls to UK and 36 international companies.

    Checking it out the performance in my area (Richmond, North Yorkshire) seems to be above average, but I’m told by a pal of mine that they have upgraded the switch around here fairly recently.

    If you are looking for a new provider ring them and haggle, they have new management and are seeking to become the main broadband provider in the UK so they will negotiate hard to buy in the customer base!

    Your broadband provider: Orange

    * download Download: 6.58Mb
    Orange average: 3.25Mb
    * upload Upload: 0.36Mb
    Orange average: 0.36Mb

    I wanted to give you a heads up that your numbers are quite misleading. There is a big difference between Mb and MB. Mb = Megabit and MB = Megabyte. 8 bits = 1 byte. 8 Megabits = 1 Megabyte
    I bring this up because this is one of the tactics that Corporations are unfortunately useing to mislead the consumer. And you seem like you are trying to help clear up some of that confusion so I thought I would try to help as well. So if your download speeds are advertised as 8Mb/s that actually translates eventrually into 1MB of data per second.

    We have the most comprehensive list of broadband providers in Uk. So you can take a look at the various packages and compare it. But I am pretty sure you can find cheap packages around
