Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Review
Just beware, there are some *MAJOR SPOILERS* beyond this point, don’t read the rest of this post if that bothers you!
“I went to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on Friday, and I have too say…..I was a little disappointed!!
Its the shortest of all 5 films (just over 2 hours), and there’s so much stuff that they could have added to make it more exciting! For example, Sirius’ demise was a bit poorly handled.
Don’t get me wrong, it was a great film. But as a massive fan of the books and the films, I was left a bit empty by this. The fight scenes in the Ministry of Magic were awesome!!
But you don’t see much of Grimmauld Place, nor much of Harry being rescued from the Dursleys by the Order. To say that this is the longest book, they could have (and should have) made this film 2 hours 45 mins MINIMUM! There was enough decent parts that they could have added to keep you on the edge of your seat!
Overall:
Darker, and more emotional. But lacked the magic that the previous films had. Amazing effects and a very good film. But for fans of the book, this could leave you feeling a bit empty inside. 3 and a half out of 5.”

Totally agree with the comments……SPOILER WARNING BEYOND THIS POINT!!!
There was so much stuff in the book that is actually key to what happens in the future stories that is totally missed out. In essence if you never read the books you will think it is great because it is visually very good….BUT…..you will leave the movies knowing nothing at all about the Order of the Pheonix, what it is, it’s history and its importance to future plots! Bit pointless as that is actually the title of the film!

I have never seen a feature film in IMAX before, and the entire Ministry of Magic finale is in glorious 3D… maybe that tainted my objectivity a little, but this was my favourite of the movies so far!

I saw this the other week and must say that I did enjoy it at the time of watching it because it is Harry Potter, however as soon as I left the cinema I started remembering how much of the book was left out and explaining this to someone who hasn’t read the book made me wonder just how much made sense to them.
Since then, I’ve read the Geeks of Doom comparison – which served to show me how much I’d forgotten about the book as well!
The movies are almost becoming trailers for the real story in the books!
