Cyberbike – Wii Exercise Bike

Written by on October 17, 2009 · Filed under Games

cyberbike-nintendo-wii-exercise-bike-boxI’m not really sure what to make of this. When Wii Fit originally came out, I thought it was quite a good idea, then they announced the Wii Fit Plus, but I now personally think they’re starting to go a bit overboard with this new Wii exercise bike release!

It will be called the ‘Cyberbike’ and has been developed by BigBen Interactive who says it’s “The very first videogame that comes with an exercise bike”. Is that something to be proud of? Really? I think it might be the only game ever to come with an exercise bike for a reason!

Of course something like this can only be developed for the Wii and only further backs up my point that the Wii is, unfortunately, becoming a very gimmicky console. In the game, you’ll be able to ‘ride’ around on different vehicles over 18 courses on land, sea and air in three different modes, which are Fitness, Story and Multiplayer. The multiplayer allows up to four players but, amazingly, you have to take turns. I’m surprised you don’t need four bikes at once, the Wiimote in your hand and the balance board strapped to your back!

The bike “comes with an adjustable saddle and handlebars so the whole family can have a go”. Well that’s pretty much a given as it would limit the bike somewhat if it didn’t. The game is compatible with other games on the Nintendo Wii, but I don’t see the fun in pedalling a bike to play Mario Kart!!

How many people are going to get over excited when they want to powerslide round a corner and end up falling off the bikes? As funny as it would be to see on YouTube, I just can’t see the attraction in this.

There’s also going to another game called ‘My Body Coach’ which will give you your own personal programme dependent on your age, sex, weight and physical condition…..so Wii Fit then?! ‘My Body Coach’ will come with two 500g dumbbells which has a space for your Wiimote to slot into.

I used to love my Wii and thought it was great fun with some great games, and some people still will. But it’s things like this and countless sequels that forced me into trading my Wii in for an Xbox 360. Each person has their own personal taste, but to me, the Wii really does look like it’s starting to dry up and has had it’s day. Let’s hope I’m made to eat my words and the Wii will turn around and shock us next year.

The Cyberbike (Wii exercise bike) currently has a release date of January 2010 whilst My Body Coach should be available on 20th November 2009. Nothing on the price yet, but I can see the Cyberbike being over £100.

My advice, buy a proper bike and ride around outside! What do you think? Are you eagerly anticipating the Cyberbike (Wii exercise bike) release date so you can buy one?

A WiiFit exercise bike, what next? I much prefer using a normal exercise bike in front of the TV if you ask me. :)

this is a great idea. i cant beleive the ngative comments ive been seeing about it, including the ones in this review.

it doesnt take a brain surgeon to realise the potential of the cyberbike. its an excersise bike that is used to play games with. excersise bikes are quite boring, i have one and id like to get fitter but i know il be board before i get out of breath.

“My advice, buy a proper bike and ride around outside! What do you think? ”
not everyone can do that. how many cyclists are killed every year on the road?

What a stupid and negative review, which didnt say anything on how actually good or bad this bike works. I think this is a great idea for people who don’t own an excersize bike yet, or people who don’t know how to cycle at all! Its a wonderfull alternative to get your work-out. I’m really curious how the user experiences are on this bike.

Some people, i.e cal, needs to stop being so over dramatic. I HAVE the bike and it’s terrible. The build is rubbish and unsturdy, there is no resistance on the pedals, it’s not made by wii but by a third party and its mainly recommended for children although they don’t tell you that. The instructions are in French and the sensitivity is crap. Better to wait for a better built version or just get a real bike..oh no wait up, thousands of people are killed on the road riding their bikes. Better to do what cal says huh?

Seems like an interesting idea to make biking more fun, especially if they were to include co-op or online play of some kind. But if the bike itself is not made well, then it’s sure to fail.

I agree this is a great way to exercise and have fun, normally on normal exercise bikes you quickly become bored whereas in a game you dont tend to notice the time therefore you will exercise more longer than you would on just a normal bike. I think this is a great idea, shame that the bike is said to not be very sterdy that seems to be a downside to it, but the gaming side is an excellent idea.

My main question for this is why can you only purchase the bike from argos and why do argos never have the bike in stock? Thats the shame of it all

  9. James Edwards 8:05 pm 6th June, 2010

Argos never have it in stock simply because it hasn’t been released in the UK ! The initial release date was back in January but now it’s June and still no Cyberbike. Don’t hold your breath waiting for it to appear ! It probably won’t now, due to the fact that it’s a commercial disaster.

This sounds like another fad created by Nintendo (or whichever third party makes the actual bike)… One of those things to use a couple of times and then put into storage. And regarding the comment about thousands of people dying each year cycling on the road, thousands of people die each year from not getting off their fat a**es and doing some exercise. Devices like this Cyber Bike cause people to falsely believe that this tiny amount of exercise will be enough to save them from an early grave, which it wont!

The Cyberbike is great fun however the supplied game needs to be played in story mode for variety. More titles are needed such as a tour de france for example. Saying that, the whole family can’t resist having a ‘ride’ every day since it arrived, included one son who is a very good resemblance of Harry Enfield’s ‘Kevin’, so the benefits alone have worth it.

The idea of this bike is good the reviews on the other hand are very mixed. personally i like the thought of being able to ride a bike at home without keeping an eye on the time or worrying about getting lost or getting a puncture. also im not too happy about not much resistance and unsteady third party made products in french lol hopefully the £99.99 cyber bike at Argos is a good one but im sure if i wait a while the wii will make an official bike with good resistance and price tag.
Another thing, this website should fire the sales team as this is no way to sell a product. :)

  13. alex 1:26 pm 12th September, 2010

I like the idea of a cyberbike
unluckly the bike doesn’t look so great.
i hope there well be a future for this kind of things.

I am really disappointed to here that the quality of this unit is poor. I think it is a great idea but , couldn’t we just strap a controller onto our leg and use our own excercise bike. In fact the game sports resort has that up and down action except you use your arms to pedal. Thinking about sticking the controller into my sock and see if that works.

  15. Diego 7:21 pm 30th October, 2010

I for one am very excited by the possibility to exercycle with the Wii. I agree that it would be preferable to be able to use your own exercise bike though.
The reviewer and some commenters mock the notion of exercycling in combination with the Wii. I find that perplexing considering my impression of the Wii is that it is primarily marketed as an exergaming device.
There are also skeptics regarding the amount of exercise you actually get with the Wii. While the Wii is relatively new indoor exercise is not. If you are indoors moving around, breathing hard and sweating what difference does it make if you are doing it along with an aerobics instructor or video, exercise machine, virtual cycling program or video game console?
So why not just buy a proper bike and ride around outside? Personally I have and do, but due to Boston trafffic, winter cold and early winter sunset I don’t always have the time or motivation to do so at least three times a week. So I have had to pick up the slack with indoor exercise and the Wii has absolutely taken the boredom out of it. I really look forward to being able to incorporate exercycling into my Wii experience.

These is stupidest thing i ever see

why we need new bike any way ???

normal bike can do + same belt for the Wii Remote

we see to many Critve way to use the wiimote like “just dance” using 2 Wii Remote in 2 hands or “Walk it out” just take the Nunchuk …

even befor i know about these game i was think of a game use wii remote on the legs and any normal exercise bike

    those guys have C- Creativity

  17. Natasha 3:55 pm 30th December, 2010

This looks like a great idea :) people have to put into consideration that not everyone can ride a bike outside when ever they want I think this would be great for people with decreased mobility such as myself I cannot go riding or even walking outside on my own because doing so could result in a accident I like the idea of being able to exercise this way in the comfort of your own home

its a safe gentle way to exercise in a fun way I personally do not like normal exercise bikes I get very bored and do not become motivated to do it and people shouldn’t expect the same quality as a actual exercise bike that is asking to much

however I do agree that the quality has room for improvement but the idea itself is good and to my knowledge the resistance height etc. can be altered so that should not be a issue

also if you do not like the idea of it then don’t buy it its that simple

  18. WiiAddict 12:26 am 3rd February, 2011

Received my pre-loved wii bike this evening for £40 and was really excited, until i had a go…

…even with the resistance dial cranked up fully there was very little resistance… and there was me hoping for a workout. the lack of resistance made it very difficult to cycle fast without your feet falling off the pedals! very disappointing indeed!

but there’s more… the seat became very uncomfortable within 10-15mins of game play! oh dear

and there’s more… the handle bar sensitivity is too high and when driving the submarine you don’t actually need to stear, it stears it’self as you pedal.

not impressed, even for £40! Grrrrrrr!

i wonder if cyberbike 2 (with magnets!!) is any better?????

  19. Pam 2:39 pm 19th March, 2011

Really love my cyberbike, and have used it everyday for the past 6 weeks. True there is little resistance, but this only makes you pedal faster, thus trimming tummy and thighs! As my daughters’ wedding is fast approaching I was glad of an incentive to get me in trim HOWEVER……………… Peddling round a corner of a country lane at breakneck speed……….THE BRAKE LEVER SHEARED OFF!!! now I’m really grumpy. Has anyone else had the same problem?

  20. RMF 8:01 pm 29th August, 2011

If you get bored fast (like me), the interactive bike is great. I have purchased this and it worked on for me. I wish there was more games suitable for this bike.

My cousin tried another approach. He upgraded his old bike stationary with one of the bike controllers kits ( http://www.cyberexercycle.com ). Since it uses a PC, you get practically unlimited number of games.
