The app works alongside iTunes, not very discreetly I might add, but it doesn’t ruin the whole look and feel of OS X and iTunes. With just a few clicks you can have CoverScout scour your entire library for missing artwork and inserting high resolution artwork as it goes. Not only that, the integrated editor allows you to alter the artwork in terms of cropping them, scaling them to fit the consistency of your collection.
You can also frame the artwork with interesting patterns, which personally, I would never do as I think it looks, quite frankly ridiculous. But never the less, it is a feature that some might find interesting. Not only that, you can use the built in iSight camera to capture your own cover art which again, I would not do as I would rather have a crisper image downloaded from somewhere on the internet.
Another good feature of the CoverScout app is that you can take your artwork and print them where they will be marked where to cut them out so you can fit the high-res images into your home made CD’s. Much like the features you find in software such as Nero which are specifically designed for burning audio CD’s and personalising the covers. But an advantage that this app has over those is that CoverScout will find the artwork for you.
On the down side, I would have liked this app to have included some sort of automated service which added the artwork and ID3 tags as you add songs to your library. Unfortunately you have to manually decide when to update your library, which on the other hand isn’t such a bad thing as it means you don’t have any unnecessary processes running when you do not need them.
Back on a positive note, the app is extremely easy to set up as is anything on OS X, it runs smoothly alongside iTunes and is simple to get rid of when you no longer need it. Plus, it is extremely easy to use so anyone, beginner or the more advanced users, can get maximum functionality out of it.
Unfortunately, the CoverScout app is not free. It will set you back around $25 give or take, which is a fair price for software which in my experience, works extremely well and does everything it promises. I would definitely recommend this app to anyone who has a large iTunes library riddled with tracks lacking in artwork.
